Post Conversion Mot Attempt Number 1.

Recommended Posts

Matt205

After an astonishingly long time of undertaking a GTI-6 conversion, suspension overhaul and brake upgrade I have finally got it back on the road. I have a highly demanding job, so time has been very limited, but I'm SO SO pleased to be nearing a point of being able to enjoy the car for a while. Although I'm not a hugely active poster on the forum (mainly because lots of people know LOADS more than I), I have found it to be an unparallelled resource. Many thanks to all the people that have helped with specific queries.

I expect to fail the first MOT attempt, but it will at least give me a clear definition of snags to address. I'll soon turn my attention to the cosmetics and the various shades of faded paint with a respray next year hopefully.

When is it booked in for?

Check all the basics, lights wipers, horn, seatbelts, tyres, not forgetting hazzard warning, also telltales for main beam and foglamp, fill the washer reservoir!

Make sure the fans work!

Get it nice and warm, then leave a back of biccies for the Tester ;)

Wash/Polish and the like helps too - A tester likes to see a 'cared for' car

after mine was off the road for 4 years and had a 6 conversion, it only failed on the front lights being cloudy and angled wrong. 205 headlights are cheap, and aren't secured very well, so make sure you pay attention to them.

Mine failed when I bought it as a standard 8v.

I used it to re-house, over a 3 month period, all the components from my written off 205.

Passed first time.

Drove it to Spain the next week - the only problem I had was a dodgy earth on the n/s headlamp.

If it's put together well you should have no problems at all.

Good luck.

Well it failed the 1st attempt on a couple of minor points and passed the re-test today. After far too long off the road, I'm now back behind the wheel of a 205. Delighted!
