Dimma 205 Knock From Nearside Wheel.

Recommended Posts

keithscossie

One wheel bearing changed 2 years ago, since then the car has done 60 kms.

Other wheel bearing ( passenger side) replaced today and the knocking noise is still there over about 30 kms /hr.

This is all new to me so any suggestions please?

Thanks

Keith

What sort of knock? When you go over a bump? Or a rhythmic knock that changes with the speed of the car?

Rhythmic knock that changes as you increase speed, just like a wheel bearing knock :(

Wheel bearings in my experience do not knock, they grumble or whine.

For a knocking first off check the wheel bolts are properly tight! Then after that I would be looking at the outer CV joints.

Nuts are tight.

I've just had the wheel bearing replaced today as well as all brakes checked etc.

The knock was there b4 the wheel bearing was done and is still the same with the new bearing.

I just " assumed" that seeing one bearing had been done the other must be the cause of the knock.

Obviously not :(

Thanks Tom.

Does it get worse when turning?

No it doesn't actually, and its not really noticeable until you get to about 30 kms/hr.

I only had about a 2km drive after the mechanic had gone, so I'll have a more comprehensive go tomorrow, bed time now :(

Cheers

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

My Megane and this Dimma are the first front wheel drive cars I've ever owned, and I've had 39 cars so far !!

It may be basic stuff to you guys but its all new noises to me !!

Thanks again

Keith
