Painting Cam Covers With 'normal' Paint

Recommended Posts

pugpete1108

i want to paint my xu10 cam covers and the plastic plug cover the a same colour but dont really want to use vht paint as it looks cack.

can i get away with normal celly or will it get too hot and fall off? or some sort of coloured enamel instead?

the head and block will be gloss black btw.

Why does VHT paint look 'cack'?

I sprayed mine with Halfords VHT aerosols and the finish was good. I've seen people brushing stuff out of a tin, which looks questionable.

i did mine in VHT silver and can't fault them. given i did loads of prep work but i'm sure it'll be fine. i did do a few bits on my old s16 engine in normal paint and it does go manky and come off with heat eventually

edit- VHT black does look matt though, which does look poo

maybe cack was the wrong word, poo is much better, i was after something gloss and not red, blue or silver. ive used a dark metallic grey on all the other bits in the bay like the servo, strut tops, strut brace etc so wanted to use that.

i painted my last engine with silver vht and it looked terrible to be honest, yes it looked factory but thats not what i wanted.and it didnt last too long either

yours looks good though but i wanted to do the plug cover (plastic) and the cam covers the same

im painting the block and head gloss black engine enamel not vht (not really sure on the difference apart from the matt/gloss finish)

i might give it a go and if it turn out it falls off then i'll just repaint it with something else.

Cheers miles :)

Just want something that last a little longer than before and gloss looked a good option.

I'll see what it looks like before I fit it.

What did you use as primer? Just standard grey?

I thinned Hammerite down then stuck it through a spray gun. Came out with a powder coat look.

But the GTi6 uses silly seals which get damaged very easily, Not something I would like to coat because of that, But all Mi's and 8v's I do
