I'm not 100% certain about this but I think it is stored by the cph / bsi so it shouldn't change when you swap them. :unsure:

 

BTW, weren't crystals standard fit on phase 3 cars?

The mileage is stored in the instrument panel and the engine ecu,if you fit an instrument panel it with a lower mileage it will take the mileage from the engine ecu and the panel will store this,if you fit a panel with a higher mileage the engine ecu will take that and store it. I'm pretty sure there are people that can reprogramme the mileage.The only easy way to do it is to fit an ecu and instrument panel together.

 

And yes all phase 3's had crystal headlights

OK, that clears things up, thanks.

 

I understand on the newer model pugs that the bsi stores the mileage which is why I thought it might be the same on the 306 with its more basic system.
