205 Gti Rear Suspension Bushes Dimensions

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am planning to spin up some bushes for the rear of my 205 gti (like those pictured here: http://www.205gtidri...-rearbeammounts) so I need the dimensions. Does somebody have them written down? Or could someone please measure them if not - I guess the ID and OD of the poly ones can be made to fit - I really just need the OD and depth of the lips, and the overall depth. And the aluminium ones I need the depth and the OD for.

Should I add a crush tube to the plastic ones? And what material should I use, a nylon or polyurethane? I know nothing about these things, I just have a lathe. :)

Regards,

Michael

I made some front wishbone bushes on my 306. I used 90a Shore poly. Took a while to get the speeds and feeds right for it using ali tipped tooling.

I made stainless crush tubes, every poly application I've seen uses them. That said, most applications have been using them as a bearing, so I'm not too sure when just a solid mount?

That's great thanks, Dave - I'll have to try ali. How long did your bushes last?

Here's what PeterT says about crush tubes:

The crush tube spreads the load over the length of the bush better than a poorly fitting bolt.

Yeah, that's about right, also helps the bush work as a bearing surface.

My bushes are currently on my spare 'bones waiting to be fitted! So not too sure yet, I'll probably never find out as no doubt I'll hate them and stick standard back in !

You're a gem, Nik! It's perfect thanks. :)

Did you make them out of PTFE?
