Re-Programming Keys

Recommended Posts

Right... Long assed question coming up !!!

I have a mark 4 astra but i only have one key. If i was to buy another key, and get a key blank cut the same as mine, would it work? Or would it need programming so the central locking worked, is this possible to do with a sequence of press and hold etc?

It would need programming, otherwise your key would work to remotely unlock any other Astra. There is a good chance the immobiliser is built into the key as well, so a blank key will not start the car.

A quick google gave me the procedure! http://lmgtfy.com/?q=mark+4+astra+key+reprogramming

Astra 1999-2003 remote programming>

1) Switch on ignition to position 2 (panel lamps on) with doors shut.

2) Press lock button a few times(doors should lock &unlock.

3) switch off ignition remove key then test.

If key doesn't work repeat.

You'll need someone with tech 2 software to program the chip in the key to the immobilizer.

Just for a giggle I asked how much the fob would cost from a Landrover main dealer for my Disco series 3. Answer £97, then a pause from me followed by the question. Programmed right? Oh no that will cost another £50. One could only despair! Weeks later the Body contol unit (basically the brain for the alam immobilser and loads of other electrical systems) failed so sourced another plus key fob from ebay and had them reprogramme both fobs to the new bcu (this was carried out by a local Landy specialist).

Anyway best of luck getting it sorted, sorry I could not help.
