After Some Advise On Insuring A Second Car

Recommended Posts

Strictly_Derv

Before I get my hopes up and start looking for cars ect can anyone give me any knowledge on adding another car to my policy?

Plan is to add ninja car to my 205's currant policy, the car will have 1/3 of the power of my 205, and will be the main car, the 205 will be a weekend car.

I just wanted to know people experiences with insuring another car as I won't have alot to spend, I'm hoping it will even go down as the car will be a standard snail compared to the 205.

Thanks.

I don't get it, you have a diesel 205 and want a second slower car?

Yes, as a daily to drive to work, even better on fuel as I will run it on pure veg oil, won't need to care about if it gets bumped into, easier to drive daily as it won't have an un sprung ceramic clutch and solid suspension...

Swap your current insurance onto the new daily car and put your 205 onto a classic policy. Classic policy's don't need any no claims.

Yeah that's definitely the best way. My 1.6 on classic insurance costs me £153 :)

I'd be surprised if you get a modified diesel 205 on classic insurance

Lesson number 1 in building a customised car, make it drivable :P and if you don't want to, make sure you have the funds to run something that is ;)

I've got mine on a multicar policy, couldn't get the 205 on a classic policy because I was under 25!

just been had by my trade insurance for having an exhaust and an air filter on one of my cars as searched and proved by them scanning the internet and finding it on 306gti6.com

So now looking to insure my 205 turbo seperately (its off road at moment but hope it will be up and running after the bad weather). Who was this classic insurance with as I don't think I will do more than 1500 miles a year in it....?

True but it's not that bad really, just wouldn't mind something abit more comfier if you get me. Well atleast I'll have fun on the way to work, may have to scrap this idea for now, Adian Flux won't add another car onto my current policy which is quite annoying.

Nope. 205 (classic policy) is difficult to insure with the modifications on a multicar policy.

Also my wife is insured on them all bar Vespa.

£350 for the 205

£330 for the E91

£230 for the Vespa

All f/c.

Feel free to give us a try, we can look to 'mirror' your NCB over to the second vehicle.

I was planning on a multi car policy, I'm 21 with no NCB as I've just started my own policy since sept. If you can beat my policy with Flux then I might have to swap to you.

I would avoid a Multicar policy as it will be more expensive than using your existing policy for thew car and insuring the 205 through a company that does classic insurance.

I use Peter James and they are extremely cheap. Any car qualifies as long as its 20 years old and they allow occassional commuting. I paid just over £100 for a standard 1.6 gti on a 3000 mile policy garaged, I'm 32 with zero no claims and 3 points so its pretty good and a lot (hundreds) cheaper than a multicar.

Multicar seems to be for a two-car plus "family" rather than a person who owns two cars because they like cars.

We can offer a NCB mirror on the 205 GTI under one of our specialist policies meaning you would be free to use your NCB/Named Driver on the main car. We can by all-means give you a quote on the everyday car but you would be you would be free to insure that with however gave you the best price.

If you can limit the mileage of the 205 to below 5000 we can qualify you for a MASSIVE discount especially if you have another car for everyday use.

We can also offer Agreed Value cover on the 205 (free of charge) and even track day insurance for £45 per event.

if you wanted to PM me your contact details I could contact you personally to run a quote. Alternatively you could get in touch with me at the office on 01277 376000.

I can explain the various policy options with regards to mileage brackets and 2nd car options for you as well.

Hi Mate

Saw the price you are paying on the 205, thought it was quite steep bearing in mind you have access to another two vehicles.

Just wondered if you would like us to take a look at quote for you to see if we can organise you a better deal? (Agreed Value, Track Day Cover and Full modification cover all available)

What an great thread - been looking at getting the old 205 back on the road so looking at insurance for a second car, however privilege told me I can't use my 9 years no claims and gave me a quote close to what I pay on the S3 ! - So that Greenlight sounds awesome, espically as I'll be doing less then 5k miles a year :D

That would be interesting, my price also includes euro breakdown and agreed value on the 205, it is also heavily modified.

I'll consider you next March.

Agreed value isnt a problem for us. There is no extra charge for it you just need to provide some pictures or a link to your build thread on the forum.

On the lower mileage vehicles our rates start at £212 full comp so prices can be very competetive.

We can also offer the trackday cover at £45 per event and cover all modifications like for like. Our specialist policy isnt like a stripped classic type insurance you would still gain NCB, have windscreen cover and even 90 days free european cover.
