Stripped Air Flow Meter Threads...what To Do

Recommended Posts

JamesE

Hi guys, I'm new here after finally returning to Pug ownership yesterday :)

Been having a poke around the engine bay (mainly to clean a few pipes) and noticed one side (ie 2 bolts) missing from the air flow meter housing to air filter tube. I tried removing one from the other side and fitting that to the other side of the air flow meter but it appears that the threads have been stripped previously. I'm presuming any air entering is gong to affect the mixture/running but don't know what the easiest way to tackle this is. I've blown the budget this month buying the car, so don't really want to spend on another afm. Car seems to be running fine apart from a high idle.

Any ideas?

The bolts are on the filter side of the AFM so it wont affect the running, try a longer bolt or taking it out to M8.

Very common these days as the bolts have often been in and out many times and/or overtightened. Simple job to helicoil them makes them good as new.

If you send me the airflow meter and £10 plus the return post cost I will helicoil them and return it to you.
