Hi I'm about to swap my 1.9 8v for an mi16, can I use my current thermostat on the mi? Thanks

You can use the 8v one, but two points of note:

1) The rear coolant bypass rail won't work properly without an Mi16 thermostat

2) New thermostats are cheap enough (particular for a generic non-Mi16 one) that I would just replace with a new one as a matter of course

Also, use new seals as a matter of course - often come with new 'stats, otherwise cheap to buy separately.

This one has always puzzled me - is it really required?

One of my Mi16 engines' coolant system didn't seem to function correctly with it removed/blocked.

Ok I'll pick one up, what was the model of 405 with the mi16 called? Will make life a lot easier when I head to my local motor factor!

Lmfao!!

1338 03 is the part number BTW, early cars used two seals, one either side, later ones used a seal that wraps around the thermostat.

Is this the correct thermostat for the mi16? http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/Citroen_BX_1.9_1990/p/car-parts/car-cooling-parts-and-car-heating/cooling/car-thermostat/?209545021&1&130192e37329de359fe61525f6583ca0aa7ffa56&000325

Service box is listing 1338 03 as NFP and my local motor factors seem to be rather unhelpful when i talk to them without knowing the cars reg!

Thanks

That's a standard 8v thermostat.

The Mi16 thermostats have a 2nd part on the back that interupts flow to the coolant bypass rail across the back of the head.

I'm pretty sure that it's this thermostat that you need.
