You will need a GTI subframe and shafts. 306 box fits with 1.6 shafts. I'd avoid a petrol box as they're too short. You would also need a FMIC or something as the TMIC won't get any flow.

Other than that, nothing much to get it moving.

you don't NEED gti stuff, just move the gear post and use a BE L quadrant, but yes you do need 1.6 shafts which will fit fine to the base model hubs (I.e same as diesel spec)

its a lot of faffing though, tbh I'd just buy a diesel 205.

He has one for sale at the moment with 12 months MOT, probably cheaper then buying all the bits to do a conversion.

I'm considering this conversion also.

Does it matter what model I go for? There seems

to be lots of cheap xltd 306s around but theyre only

90hp. Also there's a 406 on auto trader with the 2.1 110hp

Engine?

i would just use the 306 90 bhp engine as there so simple to tune you could easy see 120bhp with a light tune up

ive just converted a base line diesel for my friend,We used a 306 box,205 diesel hubs(same as 1.6gti), 205 small selector on the gbox(306 one is too long is line up with the linkages)

the 306 box is a push type,so we used a 306 d turbo clutch cable with the pedal connection off a 205,

other than that its straight forward,not much room in the bay,mind you

using a tmic for now

and get yourself on 306oc.co.uk and see what some of the lads are doing on their with the xud lumps, bosch pumps with gov. mods and lda pin mods,11mm head and big blowers(td04,t25,vnt etc.)

most of them are running around 180bhp,theirs a 205 on there thats epic
