Biggest Brake Setup On A 205

Recommended Posts

Redtop

Anyone know a good place to get AP calipers cheap? The only place I can find with a decent range is PartBox and they're all at RRP.

Edit: I know they'll never be cheap cheap, but every little helps!

I got ap and discs from my local ap dealer here in N.I. Fred crawford but not sure who would be your local agent. For what I was getting they weren't too bad and for the custom bells and brackets I needed made up, ap worked closely with BG brakes and BG made all the brackets and bells up for what I thought was quite reasonable for the work involved and the quality was first class.

Pete, will do when the time comes. :)

Yeah I had a good experience with BGDev last time, they were a little on the pricey side but I'd definitey recommend them.

Petert, do you use rear compensators with your GTI-6 front brakes setup?

Yes, adjustable bias valve.

You other blokes, stop looking at brake porn and just buy some decent pads. While ever you're mucking around with EBC/Mintex etc., you're just playing with it.

And when you order a set of Endles pads, they aren't going to say "yes sir, I have a set on the shelf, good choice, that's what the fast 205 boys are using now." They're going to ask more probing questions like, "what's the mass of your car? what tyre type & size? They'll be ready next week."

Problem is Peter, the main uk dealers for Endless are Demon Tweeks and M-Sport. The cheaper option therefore is Demon Tweeks, and before purchasing anything from there, you are required to pull your own pants down and hand the sales assistant a mask!

As are EBC, they aren't that bad if you choose the right pad and for the clubman racer/rallyist they're significantly cheaper, the Saxo Rally car I service for for example runs Yellows or Green up front and reds in the back, this is 285 Wilwoods and std size rears.

Then run Pagid, or Carbotech, either are just as good an option.

But brake porn is nice anyway.

To be honest, I use Mintex or Ferodo, and never have a problem.

Ferodo are the daddies for performance vs value.

No, Pagid, Endless, Carbotech are performance vs value. You've totally missed the point.

I guess Cam meant performance with value!

I'd agree with that.

Carbone Lorraine are another that I'd add, no personal experience but I only hear good things but then they're £££.

I've used carbone lorraine pads and they are fantastic, not so good for the wheels though.

My ds2500s went bad after no time at all, offering nothing from cold then cracked up and started to fall apart.

I've had a few sets of 1144s and as a road and occasional track pad were vey good.

I had Ferodo's but i think the previous owner had cooked them, they were pretty s*ite.

I've got 1144's in the derv on 1.9 gti brakes, brilliant combination. Tempted to put them on the GTI.

On the GTI i've got 1155's on gti6 brakes, also a good combination. Just need to get some stickier tyres as they're a bit happy to lock up.

I use Carbone Lorraine RC6 and they are brilliant! Yes, they are a bit more expensive, but in my experience they last a really, really, really ( :excl:) long time. I have 307 HDi calipers, Zimmerman 283 discs and Carbon Lorraine RC6 discs. Have done 18 trackdays with them and around 25.000 kilometers of normal road driving. A lot of these trackdays have been at circuit Zolder, Belgium. Zolder is known as being very hard on the brakes. Only now discs are showing the first signs of getting a bit thinner. Pads are not even close to half way done. I'm using this same setup now for 4 years, never had to buy new pads or discs.... I now of others over here also with 307 HDi calipers and OEM discs and OEM pads/DS3000 pads who have had less miles/kms and are on there 2th or 3th set of discs/pads. I guess you get what you pay for. And sometimes paying a bit more (discs/pads) can be cheaper in the end.

Have also used Ferodo DS2500 in the past on my 306GTi6 and previous 106 Rallye S1. They are good. Used EBC Red once, never again. So for me, CL RC6 all the way now (and Zimmerman discs). Never problems with fading, can be used on the road, excelent stopping power, there brilliant.

Further on. As said here, buying really good brake pads and discs is for most of us enough for trackdays.

This thread seems to be really going around the houses! Your project is a Mi16 no? A set of rebuilt, healthy 1.9 calipers with, frankley, any of the pads suggested and you'd be happy with them.

Standard Lotus Elise Ø288 x 26 discs modified to suit the 205 hub and Elise calipers. Custom brackets. All fits under the standard 1.9 wheel with no spacers. I am currently using Ferodo racing pads. I agree the weight has changed the streering slightly but nothing compared to the improved stopping power.

Edited to add : I think BG Developements are looking at making some of these kits.

they look good! what's the weight of the discs and the calipers? discs look to have some decent cooling venting.
