Overheating ? And A Lost Wire

Recommended Posts

Dance21

Hi,

Just started my 1.9 for the first time in 5 months after a complete rebulid all started up better that I thought it would to my surprize. :D So I left it running for half an hour went back to the car and the temperture light and stop light were on but the gauge was only reading 2 thirds? gave it a rev and it went out for 30 seconds but then it was on again the fans were running not sure if it was the high speed as well any ideas? is there a second sender for over temperture. Coolant level is fine but when I removed the cap after 2 mins of seating there was no pressure in the system.

Also the oil temperture sender I have no wire for It just the crimp on the end looks like it been ripped off but cannot find the other end does it go to the brown connector under the MAF senor if so what are the colour codes wire there is a spade connector by the water senor block but it reads 12v live on my meter does this have a home???

Dave

is the water pump working? no pressure and fans coming on would lead me to look at the water pump.

Edit quick and easy check is to look in the header tank while its running make sure the return is feeding water.

Hi,

Checked the return pipe the larger one on the top of the expansion bottle all ok.

Could it be a sensor ? the temperature switch is there anyway of testing it?

yeah done that and the heater gets hot? I think maybe a duff sensor as the temp gauge is only reading 2/3's

Any know about this oil temp wire as in where dose is it go? As it is totally missing on mine

Oil temp wire is located at the back of the sump.

That shouldnt really effect the warning lights... mine isnt even pluged in

The oil temp sensor wire tends to get brittle due to the heat from the exhaust manifold and breaks.

On '88 onwards models, it runs from the engine bay brown multiplug, underneath the thermostat housing and then round the back of the block, and was originally white in colour - although typically now is discoloured into a tan/grey sort of colour.

To be honest, on most 205's the sensor wiring in general is pretty poor these days and is best replace with fresh wire and terminals, removing the problemsome brown multiplug in the process.

they usually break due to been so close to the exhaust manifold, the heat makes them brittle.

Thanks will have a look at that, I've also just ordered a temperature switch hopefully that will cure the warning light coming on early

Just had another look at the wiring found under the plastic sleeve a wiring chop shop that's why I couldn't find the white wire for the oil temp, changed the coolant temp switch and temp sensor just off to buy some wire to replace that part of the loom will let you know how it goes.
