205 Rear Wheel Drive 3.0 V6 Idea

Recommended Posts

marcdimma

hi im just gauging what peoples foughts are on the idea ov doing a rear wheel drive 205 3.0 v6

I was think of turning the v6 sideways on too run the gearbox and prop too the rear not sure of any gearboxs that may fit the v6 or is there a transfer box that will fit for 4x4

maybe the easyest way would be too sling the v6 in the rear (not sure)

its a long shot for now just too see if any1 has any other solutions

iirc used the Clio V6 the same engine as the 406 (V6), so maybe you weld 205 shell on a Clio bottom plate.

A bloke in ppc magazine runs a 3.0 v6 in a rwd kitcar using a Alfa gearbox I believe, I think he's made his own bell housing

V6 engines are silly cheap at the moment!

custom bellhousing or a Nissan/later renault V6 would probably be the easier solution, though not as cheap.

If you're dropping the engine in the rear does it matter what it came from originally?? Look at the Honda rear engine build on here...

Also, if you're turning the engine 90 degrees and keeping it front engine/(ridiculously light) rear wheel drive then again, does it matter what the engine has come from and drive train as its all going to be custom mounts and such anyway isn't it???

Edit:

Look for an Alfa GTA lump and throw that in sideways or in the rear!!

gta engines arnt too cheap the 406 v6 engines are plus if i get the v6 sideway on i can see about a custom exhaust manifold n inlet for more bhps its a bit restricted in the normal way.

im not sure whats the best solution for handeling wise meaning engine in the rear or in the front

in the front, driving the front wheels, of a 406....:P

personally, I'd stick it in the front of a 309 driving the back wheels if it had to, just that little bit more space to fit everything in, not a lot but enough, slightly longer wheelbase will help too.

I think you'll really struggle to get the weight distribution far back enough if you plan on sticking the engine in the front. To give you an idea, my project has a 2.0 Duratec pretty much underneath the windscreen and that'll make getting a rearward bias tricky enough, I can't imagine where you'd have to put a V6! If I were you I would fit a FWD engine in the boot just in front of the rear axle, that way you can move a lot of things into the engine bay to balance it out a bit.

Turn it sideways, slap it on a transaxle so it sits where the rear seats were. Problem solved.

Renault UN1 turned upside down should mate up nicely with the Pug MA clutch plate....same spline afaik.

If its the same as an MA its the same as a BE ;) how do you make the bellhousing fit?

Have you thought about bonnet clearance if you go down this route? I realise it's the least of the problems in the grand scheme of things, but I would have thought with the engine turned you are likely to have the cambelt end sitting quite high and need a big ugly bulge at the front of the bonnet to clear it.

Correct, 3.2 GTA engines aren't cheap, but 3.0 engines can be much cheaper. 166s (like what I have) are a bit thin on the ground but complete running cars can be found stupidly cheap. 220bhp from one of them. Even the earlier 3.0 12v engines (from the likes of the 164) are still good for about 200bhp, and some say they sound even nicer than the 24v engines. Either way, it's a legendary engine in many people's eyes, would make for a very unusual and interesting conversion, and actually looks sexy as hell (how often can you say that about an engine?!). They love to be revved, and sound much better than the Peugeot V6. You could even stick the gearbox in the back for better weight distribution, like Alfa did with the 75 and various other models.
