on shiply i managed to get a car from bristol to preston for £80 my mate used it and got his car picked up from scotland to preston for £130

Overall i say its a good place to start, dont hurry and accept bids you have to wait it out.

How long have you actually waited?

Sounds like one of the first bids... i waited a full week for a quote i was happy with! 330 sounds stupidly over priced!

At a minimum of 400 miles/8 hours, £330 isn't too bad a quote IMO.

Would probably cost you the same in fuel and trailer rental costs.

With Shiply you do have to wait a few days for the cheaper quotes to come through but be careful about who is bidding as there are rogues & unsuitable / uninsured transport people using it. The problem I've found with shiply is that they see 205's as scrappers and you do need to stress to them that the car is a collectable / rare item. Try contacting Cartrans - info@cartrans.co.uk -Phone: 01387371520 -Mobile: 07720598862 He delivered my last 205 and I'd recommend him highly. He charged me £245 for my Mi16 from Preston to Fort William which is bloody good value when you break it down into price per mile & remember that your car is having 0 miles added to it on route.

I've used Shipley before, you have to pay Shipley a certain amount on top of the quote and the courier has to pay them aswell so get some quotes from there and then google there username of the bidder to try and contact them direct as it will be cheaper.

Could the RAC or AA refuse to attend as the car's not road legal?

Yes, my friend once broke down in his 205 an had it towed from Glasgow to his home address in Dundee. When the RAC guy arrived in Dundee he was going through his checks and noted that the car had no road tax so wouldn't release the car from the vehicle and towed it all the way back to Glasgow where he had collected it.

Poor car was nicked the next night too!

Falkirk car carriers brought my 205 from Bonny Scotland down to Worcestershire with the gearbox in the boot, £200 ish if I remember correctly paid to the driver on delivery. Fantastic service ultra reliable. From memory Brenda is the lady to speak to.

im guessing the only way you could achieve a price like this is with a big truck carrying multiple cars and with a gauranteed return load to scotland.Your local one man band car tranport firm with his van and car trailer could never make that distance work for that money.General rule of thumb is around a pound a mile. Most of all you want to make sure the person/company carrying your pride and joy has the relevant insurances in place that will cover you in the event of loss or damage.

That's exactly what they do, proper articulated transporters. They collected my car a few days before delivery, secure storing it between pick up & delivery then loaded it onto the next lorry that was passing nearby (ish) 2 days later, the waits never too long as they run about 10 trucks I believe. The drivers next drop after mine was in Bristol with 3 x brand new T5 vans. These guys are superb at what they do & collect/deliver when they say they will, all fully insured too.
