Went To A Motoring Event....

Recommended Posts

jeremy

Last christmas my sister bought my family some vouchers for Santa Pod, so went with my sisters family and my son to Flame and Thunder yesterday. Now it may not have been the best of weather, or had hundreds of stands shows events etc, however had a great time seeing some nut case driving over 200mph on the quater mile strip on a motorbike along with a mental Volkswagen Beetle. Although the best things were the smell of burning rubber from Team Maximum Lock ie three Nissan Skylines doing a burnout for what seemed a minute and the noise generated by some of the drag cars was emmense! Now that may seem strange but you can see everything on the TV or net but it just does not compare to the smell and sound of real life. Overall a very enjoyable day and would highly recommend it.

like a lot of events more memorable if you were there, even if you can see more watching on tv.

Its the smells and the noise that make live motor racing immense. Simply cannot be replicated on a TV screen. Also the sense of speed is much better when its live!

I went with Phil a year or 2 ago - the pounding of the air on my chest was epic.

Was at the flame and thunder also on Saturday Its the one show i tend to really make the effort to go to as its a really nice way to end the season. I really enjoyed the Ken block piece around 6 o clock. The Americans really know how to put on a show with fire and explosions as the monster fiestas sitting on its limiter with all four wheels smoking. Some nice runs on the strip too with quite a few PB's. Its one of the rare occasions the wind was actually straight down the track from behind. But as ever at this time of year, the track is very cold. Both top fuellers that i saw did full 1000ft passes though which is always nice. Im not sure why they closed the track so early though because a fueller at night is something else. Terry grant also putting on great shows in the live action arena and is actually starting to make it a lot more fresh. After going to Santa Pod so many times and see him slip as he tries to stand on the roof the first time it can get a little repetitive, but like i say, he has added a lot of new stuff which was great to watch. A true show man. The strange hail stone towards the end of the day actually made me make the decision to come home on the Saturday night. We usually do the hardcore thing and camp to watch the RWYB the next day but i must be going soft or getting old because i changed my mind, which was a waste of a weekend ticket.

Glad you enjoyed it and hope it wont be your last time there.

Dan can not belive that was two years ago. We need another doo mate. The fast show next year. Make yourself available.
