How would you go about fitting arches to a 5 door; slice in half jobby I'd assume?

depends on the type of arches really, and whether you want them to follow the door shut line or just cut straight in half. with most of them being fiberglass it can be rather tricky to cut it neatly in a curve.

Mine are classic mini arches, and I've just cut them straight (ish) vertically, which leaves a bit of overhang when you open the door

I guess fitting the arch first with door open, then carefully cut along the door lines of the car itself with a jig saw. Or make a mark with a pen then take it off and carefully cut it. If possible, maybe using a Stanley knife blade along the lines as a pre cut would help cut them out neatly.

Ive seen it done on a few 5 door 205's now, they look good as do the 3 door ones with them arches. I have a set of rubber side trims with the red stripe for 3 doors like the gti kits have but rubber, no arches, that afaik are very rare. Thought about fitting them to my 5 door but cutting these rubber side trims to fit i didnt really fancy doing. I might sell or use them for my future track based car and those arches maybe, not sure yet....

Looks really good, I use to own a GT so I've always had a soft spot for a non-standard looking 5 door - someone did a similar one on here (just without the arches) and it still looked great.

I'll have a look for one that shows the arches a bit better when I'm not on the work computer, but this almost shows you the general idea

Ah looks spot on; how did you go about cutting them? As above; fit with the doors open and mark it, or line it up and has'a'guess?

Considering it's a 5 door that actually looks really good / factory like :)

I think I did it the most cock-handed way possible on the first one, by attaching the whole arch first then trying to cut it with a plasterboard knife (long serrated blade type thingy) whilst following the line of the door. but because the arches I've used arent contoured perfectly for the car, there was tension in the arch when it was attached, so as soon as I finnished cutting, it sprung into a different position so I ended up just doing it gradually by eye.

i've seen the picture on the Facebook group it was posted on, on inspection you can see a vertical cut down and then it follows the arch lines to the bottom of the door to a horizontal cut there

You have to be a fan of the page in order to see it, but there's only one photo of it anyway - the one I'd posted.

@johnny; does the arch hang over the door, as there is about an inch beteen the door and the original, car arch? It's hard to explainl but i looked today and if the rallye arch is to be on the car, it wouldn't allow the door to open, so only way around this i think is to have it overhanging the door?
