I have the three types and wonder what the temps are for each of them, as they dont have any numbers on the bottom of them ?

Two of them dont seem to have the washer, they are missing and having a bit of trouble finding a motor factors that have the right size washer for them. Does anyone know where to get some from, tried halfrauds, GSF etc and a few other local places, they all dont seem to sell copper washers separately, only large packets.

Im after the lowest temp i can get.

Cheers

Purple is 97/92 from memory. Never seen a black ringed one, and an unmarked one could be anything.

Is there definitely no numbers stamped on the side, as there usually is and two of them are the temperature ratings?

Purple is what you want mate, coupled with a low temp thermostat.

Works well on mine

Ok thanks guys, i'll have another look at them to see if there are any numbers on other areas of them. I dont know which thermostat i have as it came with the engine package, all sealed up with new gasket now, as the engine its off a VTS i imagine. It doesn't have the water pipe section that some people seem link to the top of a phase 2 tanks, if that makes any difference.

Got to find a new washer for that one, anyone have one spare ??

numbers are usually on the side not the bottom :)

you dont want to go too low, it'll be on all the time and make it run too cold.

the washer is usually either a solid or crushable M22 copper one, part # 0243 18.

Ok great, thanks WPug.

Here are the switches, i got it a bit wrong, i was going from memory. The first one came with the rad that i think was a ph 1.5 - 1.6ltr gti, the other two are the ones ive collected over the years. The purple one i think cam from a 1.9 gti i broke back in 2005, i broke it due to bent chassis.

The purple does have numbers on the side after a good clean, very hard to see as the engraving is s*it > 92* - 87 > 87* - 92*

However the black one of which has a thicker black band around it which is different to the purple one has the numbers on the bottom > 26k 84*-79* > 88*-83* very deep and clear engraving.

Purple one will be 92-87 and 97-92. Basically means that the slow speed kicks in at 92 degrees (and off at 87) and high speed at 97 (and off at 92)

The black one is a bit odd with such a low temperature range and having the later connector (and hence not being from an early car where the switch was on the lower offside of the radiator) and I wouldn't personally suggest using it as it's likely to end up with the fan running constantly since the switching temperature is below the thermostat rating (typically 82 or 89 degrees depending on the engine)

Yes i do, the purple one ill use does have the washer but its in poor condition so i think would be best to replace it with a new one before fitting. It saves having to buy a pack of 5, which would be a bit of a waste as i wont ever use the rest of them.

Thanks for the offer cRaig, let me know if you find them. If you need any more rubber i have plenty spare if you need some.
