Fitting A Polycarbonate Rear Screen

Recommended Posts

fliprio

Can you fit a polycarbonate rear screen without riveting it on?

I see lots of poly rear screens that have been attached using rivets, which while fine for a race car, in my opinion looks a bit out of place on a road car.

why bother on a road car?

I cant see why you can't simply bond it in though.

Neat rivets won't look much worse than scuffs, scratches and how the light hits it after a while.

If you get a formed one (shaped) then you can bond it on using something like sicoflex (sp?).

I always paint a 2" strip round the outside before bonding in to hide the sealant, looks tidyer like a T16 B)

+1 for painting a strip around the edge!

I bonded my rear screen in but used rivets to secure it purely because I didn't have enough clamps, was a similar story for the quarter windows too.

The painted strip looks the neatest on the rear.

I used the rear quarter rubbers, no sealant or rivets needed.

when i fitted one to my old mi16 i painted a black edge around the inside and used small nuts and bolts to fix it in.

I know you can get formed side windows, I will ask the guy if he does a formed rear screen

I take it most people use the bolts/rivets because it isnt formed and needs to be held down

I used tiger seal with a new oe seal from pug but it isn't the best job.

Messy & best to find someone with fitting experience to get an oe look fit like Daz has on his car.
