Damn. Did they hit the pole with the roof?

Yes.

A friend has had the same kind of an accident in a 306 GTI-6 last year

and he came out only with some bruises and a slightly broken leg .

Christ, that's quite a mess, although not surprising given how little strength there is in the roof in a 205. Atleast one assumes that death was pretty much instant.

Always hard to compare the outcome of two seemingly similar accidents, as it only takes the impact to be at a different angle or in a slightly different place and it is the difference between walking away unscathed and instant death. The roof section is much stronger in a 306 granted, but it's still going to offer little protection against something like a pole hit square on at speed as look to have been the case here.

Sobering pictures. Makes you think :( lack of weight is one of the things that make the 205 a great drivers car, but then this is the risk we take.

Having wrote off a road rally gti after a bad end over roll i'll always be gratefull for the cage that was fitted. The roof was not good but every panel was kinked, legs bent, looked lopsided and even the doors would not shut properly. I feel sorry for them but as Graham says drinking and driving don't go together!

i always find it hard to put pitty on drink drivers as they put others at risk aswel as themselves but still that looks a terrible mess

Of course, but still, what would you think the consequences of such an impact would be (LHD)?

Very nasty indeed, as said if you drink and drive then expect there to be consequences.

Makes you think when you know it only takes four lads to lift and move a 205 with no engine or suspension, makes me wish i had a roll cage right now instead of laters.

Easy to blame when you don't know the circumstances under which it happened but IMHO drivers under ~23 years old should not be allowed to drive sports cars / cars above a number of bhp.

Ditto, one could do similar damage in a 1.0 car but the chances are less.

We've all been 19-21 and know how we used to drive then and now.
