Pts Gr. A Cam

Hi would like to know if anyone have some info regarding the Peugeot Talbot Sport Gr. A camshfat used on 205 309 in the 80´s??

What would you like to know? All I can remember is the duration of 251deg @ 0.050", 106 deg LCL and 0.465" maximum lift. Which meant it was absolute borderline with standard springs.

I don't know any info on them but which PTS group A camshaft, max torque (7048), 1.9 'performance' (7060) or maximum top end (7040)?

I think Sandy Knows the spec of the 7048, I have one that used to be in an engine he rebuilt and specified a different cam for.

 

it does indeed fit straight in a standard head, but no chance of it working with an afm.

I´ve jus got hold of one as soon it arrives going to see wich one max torque (7048), 1.9 'performance' (7060) or maximum top end (7040) and post some pics of it.

What´s the difference between them?!!

a clearer pic of the end of the cam would help :lol:

 

you can measure peak lift yourself, and if you have a head, a dial gauge, and a degree wheel, you can plot the duration yourself.

Tomorrow i´ll take a better pic, on the end of the cam it´s written SB GP A do you know of made it??!!

I'd agree that is a Skip Brown camshaft, although I don't know the exact specifications of their "Group A" camshaft I'm afraid.

Anthony and petert thanks for the confirmation of the cam. Petert this cam will be best suited to use with carbs and using a different management without using carbs or itb how would it idle??!!

Welshpug i´m building a xu10j2 engine with the inlet manifold from the xu5ja, going the polish and port the head, using the oe bottom end light and balanced, how much would i need to skimmed the head to bring the compression higher??!

 

The std ecu from this engine will it work fine with the cam or better using a dta, emerald or megasquirt?!?!

It doesn't work well with an AFM and standard ECU. It works fine with a std inlet manifold provided you map it via TPS position.

Petert using the management from the xu10j engine a magnetti marelli ecu wich uses a tps position would it idle properly???

I think that ECU uses manifold pressure as the primary load source. It will work, but the reversion pulses will be difficult to deal with at low RPM.

Anyone know the spec of the CTS /PTS 7048 camshaft so I can dial it in correctly ? Got my hands on a vernier pulley (Kent Cams CA31) and plan on fitting it this weekend. The engine currently running a stock pulley and engraving on head includes 'FL @106'

That would mean full lift @106 degrees. Seems very mild.

Full lift at 106 is getting near fully fat. An LCL of 114 would be mild, whilst 102 would typically rev to 9000+. Look at some profiles and descriptions on cam makers websites.
