Peugeot 307 Buying Advice.

Sadly someone drove into the side of my wifes Kia Sedona writing it off as uneconomic to repair. My wife has a budget up to approximately £2500 (we hope, still awaiting for a settlement figure), and from looking at Ebay we are looking at something around 2003/2004/2004 depending on spec/milage. Preferably would like an auto petrol or diesel. Any help welcome.

Hi,

 

Not sure about other models, but the 1.4 engine has a known fault of a leaking head gasket at about 50K. Do a quick google on it, as its a common fault. ive seen 3 cars with the same issue ( well 1 was a 207 1.4 ) ..

I bought a 2004 xsi, so top of the range, 2 litre petrol with 80k on the clock. I paid 2K for it

Petrol XSIs are dirt cheap compared to diesels. 2.0 90 HDI's have no dual mass flywheel or FAP. 110's of that age need to have their flywheel checked. I love mine :)

2.0 petrol are supposed to be bullet proof, perhaps only with coilpack failing.

 

I say supposed, because I've had a near-catastrophic failure on mine... <_<

What I find fascinating is that such heavy car (mine's an Estate), even with auto-gearbox and A/C

and more power to begin with, fuel consumption is not higher that that of 205 GTI's :huh::).

Slight update, we have had a settlement figure from the insurer, followed by ten minutes of haggling and they have offered a very fair amount, so happy with that side of things, and it saves my wife the hassle of selling it as she wanted something smaller since we no longer needed to large towing barges!!!

 

Going to test drive a 53 plate HDI SE with 95k on the clock with a new cambelt and full service done. Although the service book is not stamped between 65 to 95K it does come with a three month waranty and looks immaculate inside and out. Priced at about £2.5k

Sadly the 307 I was due to test drive this morning sold yesterday. So looked at another one today. It was a 2006 with a 1.6HDI Generally all drove fine except when using the clutch it felt like tiny vibrations coming through the peddle, but only once you started to depress it, other than that it changhed gear perfectly and genrally drove as I would expect. So any ideas as to what may cause this would be greatfully appreciated, as I am considering making an offer and will take this into consideration when doing so. Also it will need a thorough service, and I'm guessing a cambelt change, so ideas on cost would be greatfully appreciated.

After the experiences with my good lady's 307 2.0HDI I wouldn't even have a lift in one, let alone buy one!!! A new turbo, umpteen trips to garage for numerous fault codes, emissions faults despite being used daily for a 40 mile commute, all occurring with under 50k on clock. Wouldn't have one given!!

The clutches on the dv6 engines (1.6hdi) have a tendency to push the release bearing through the pressure plate, not an expensive fix but a pain non the less, I would say that's what the vibration was you were feeling.

Provisionally bought a 2litre HDI 2005 SW in black, not immaculate but tidy with reasonable wear and tear, 100K on the clock with full history including recent cambelt change and third row of seats and one month warranty. Will post pics as soon as we have it.
