Has Anyone Used A Non-Gti As A Trim Donor?

Recommended Posts

Stu

Hi all,

A good few years ago now i totally gutted my car to turn it into a track car, but its now time to take it down a notch and use it more as a road car, to this end i need a full set of trim. Literally everything, right down to the rear seat brackets, sunroof plastics, the works..

So, given the escalating costs of even crap box GTi's nowadays would a non-gti make a good donor? Aside from the half leather, and red carpet, would i be missing anything else?

Are they weird colours or owt?

I would say hold out for a GTI. Base models have nasty plastic doorcards, no centre console, and sometimes the dash bits can be a naff light grey colour.

If you can pick up a tatty GTI at the right money, sell a few bits you dOn't need and get the trim you do for next to nothing.

if you did go the base model route, I think youd be best off with something higher spec like an XS, that'll have more of the bits you need than, say a 1.1, still not all of them though.
