Twincharging

Recommended Posts

After spending several hours trawling through google i thought i'd open a topic on here. Anybody had any experiance of twincharging, how well it works, how hard it is to do or set up.

Ive read up about the different ways of pipeing it all up, the most commonly used one for home

brewed conversions seems to be turbo outlet feeding supercharger input - MASSIVE intercooler - throttle body then finally into the inlet manifold rather than some form of expensive swith over valve. How well does this work?

If for example you took an already turbo charged engine would it be easier to do, as the engine would already be built/suitable for boost, also

would the mangement run it, seeing as again its designed to run an engine that creates boost.

I know theres lots of different things to think about but is it possible without stupidly large expense?

Do you mean supercharger output feeding turbo input?.I think without a diverter valve of some sort one would restrict the other i.e supercharger would eventualy restrict the turbo (depending on size) .Im pretty sure some people have used old throtlle bodys to re direct flow so it isnt restrictive.

Idealy you want a supercharger feeding a MASSIVE turbo that way you could have no lag at all .There is a few videos on youtube of a twincharged evo6 sprinting and its a bloody monster of a thing

That what iassumed people did when i first started looking, but it seems to be the other way round to prevent what you've said where the supercharger would restrict the turbocharger. Any linksor pics of the spare throttle body set up?

ill see if i can find one (a link) it was years ago though .Ill have to think about this then doing it the other way round .It seems pretty pointless to me .Unless you had something like a variable vain turbo wich boosts from the word go and then a charger with a silly pully ratio so it didnt start spooling till halfway up the rev range .But id assume the supercharger would be very restrictive with the turbo blowing through it .Unless you maybe ad a sort of slipper clutch on the supercharger pulley so that the airflow could force the rotors in the supercharger round without being stopped because the belt wasn`t turning quick enough. very confusing stuff .

Turbo feeding roots charger without any diverters is a commonly trod path. Roots/compound chargers will multiply the boost wether it's fed in at atmospheric pressure or higher.

Have a google for Ronin's twin charged exige ;)

You could plumb in some kind of bypass butterfly, possibly powered by an actuator?

Yeah i dont want to run any sort of switch Over or butterfly for a few reasons, mainly simplicity but partly cost aswell. I'll have a look at that exige on thecomputer later, cheers for that.

I run the turbo feeding the supercharger, With a bypass to control the supercharger boost.

Thanks
