Fan For Heater Not Working Properly?

The fan hasn't been working properly since I bought the car, I've never really attempted any wiring but if someone can help me find the problem, I could get someone to come assist me.

 

When I bought the car, two cables which join together to start the fan were detached hanging out of the glovebox. When I attach them it stays on full blast, not being able to adjust any settings.

 

Lately my car has been getting fogged up due to colder nights and is becoming a real pain. Any help would be very good as this needs sorted asap!
