Recommended Posts

Been ogling the Halfords website and found an offer on one their 5 drawer cabinet. Get a 7 drawer cabinet free with the 5 drawer rolling cabinet for £249.

Any good?

they're not bad but don't take weight as well as the pro ones, an extra £100 but also have a similar offer on.

ooh, missed Cameron's reply, have used those Clarke HD cabs, VERY nice quality and I didn't realise they were that comparatively priced!

Yep, I looked very carefully at halfords tool chests- I went around a few stores to look at the chests, and basically some of the drawers were already wearing out from being on display with no tools in!

Went for a Clarkes HD Black and Gold chest (Vat free day so price was comparible, a little more expensive) and havent looked back since! :)

I got the Halfords Pro.

7 Drawer top + 4 drawer middle, + 5 drawer bottom.

Paid £320 for the lot on offer and I'm happy that the price Vs quality for the type of use I will give it is good (DIY'er).

Not the best out there certainly, but depending on use, location it will be in, etc etc it maybe fine for you.

Yeah I have the industrial ones, and although they are still packed up in the boxes unused that they came in, I have used friends ones and the bearings aren't bad for the money. I've used plenty of snap on cabinets which you can certainly notice the difference with, but for hobby use I think the industrial ones will be good enough for me.

Yeah they're awesome! Very very sturdy too as they're made out of pretty thick steel.. I'd say they were the next best thing to a Snap-On cabinet only at a fraction of the price. The only thing that lets it down is the castors are cheap plastic so it can be annoying to move across some surfaces, rubberised ones would have completed it.

Get the Industrial one - much sturdier, much nicer runners/action and you've still got the lifetime warranty too. Bought mine on a similar offer weekend several years ago - they seem to run it regularly each year.

Agreed, industrial ones are excellent for the money. Bought some a year ago and have been very impressed!

From your link it looks like both can be purchased together for £199. I own several in the range for over 7 to 10 years with no problems. And yes they are not the same quality as the black ones, but then again they are not the same price. So if it is just for DIY then they are sufficient enough.

the box cost £6000 which seems alot but put in perspective of the £80000 worth of tools that are in it it seems rather cheap lol

Spend a bit more and buy a second hand Snap On or the like off eBay.

I have a Sykes one and its lasted me 15 years of abuse
