S1 Escort RS Turbo wins hands down on looks imo.

Awaiting the usual ford rust comments and the fact that other models would waste it down a country lane!

As far as I'm concerned a hot hatch needs to be FWD and ideally three door... That renault or the escort RS don't really count, do they? And the lancia delta integrale? Beautiful car, but it's a flat out sports car as far as I'm concerned.

Which hands the 205 the win, obviously.

Nice.

I have/had five of the cars in the top 50, not bad, but I bet others here have had more.

I was kind of expecting some interesting choices in this list when the threads asking for suggestions were put up on PH over a month ago, and some of them were quite amusing, with a lot of debate & discussion over what exactly makes a hot hatch.

Personally having owned a facelift Clio V6 myself, i certainly wouldn't class it as a hot hatch lol.

The 205 is the best looking, 309 is the best.

End topic :P

Clio Trophy should have been much higher. Not an iconic looker, but one of the best cars to drive ever

Surely the 205 would have been top if they hadn't split the 1.6 and 1.9 into two seperate cars!

Either way its clearly the winner, intergrale doesn't count just like the 205 T16 doesn't!

Probably as most see the ek9 as more desirable and the "better" car

EDIT:

DC2s came in 98 spec with twin round headlights in ukdm.

There's obviously various things on that list that are open to personal interpretation.

Personally I don't have any issue with the Integrale being in (and winning) that poll. After all, it most definitely is a hatchback, it's definitely hot, and it grew out of much more placid production hatchback. The only reason for discounting it is that it's 4wd and had a power advantage over it's peers at the time, but why should that matter?

Wheareas I don't see the DC2 Integra or the Imprezza as hot hatches. Going by my comments on the Integrale, they DO count as Hot Hatches, but for some reason I just don't think of them as being in that class. Perhaps because I tihink of the Integra as being more of a coupe, and the Imprezza as more like a saloon (or estate).

The dc2 is such a coupe.. its just the rule of thumb, if the glass goes up with the boot its a hatch and that makes the dc2 a hatch..

id of said though the subaru is a loon...? isnt the boot seperate to the glass with a solid bulkhead between cabin and boot....???

Surely the HF turbo was the 'hot hatch' version

I've never regarded the 4x4 versions to be hot hatches more the next class above...
