Hi,

I bought one from that very famous online auction site for about £90, I have used it for the bigger items I can't get in my cabinet. The one I got is really good but messy, it leaves a load of sand and debris not just in the area I am blasting but all over the drive or back garden and me, After doing a bonnet and boot lid it looked like the garden had been transported to the edges of the Sahara LOL. It takes a lot of sweeping up with the yard broom.

One last thing don't try using it without a good pair of thick gloves (I use my welding gloves) its a real so and so when you hit bare skin and away wear the hood they supply, I wear a face mask too.

If I get time tonight I will do a quick search and see if I can find the make I bought

Cheers,

Darren

you need a decent sized compressor, plenty of CFM.

have a search for M@tt's sandblasting cabinet build.

If you have a look on the migwelding forums afew people including M@tt have made blast/pressure pots from old gas bottles. I am intrested in either buying an ebay one or building one myself aswell :)

Thanks for the replies, I'm aware of the cfm my compressor is 14cfm. I have seen those pots and have hummed and ar'ed about one. I would like to make my self one as I possibly have the bits here to do it. I can quite amagine the mess it makes but I had planned to make a bin type of thing to place my parts in. I think I'll have a gander at m@tt's and see what's involved, :)

I made my own diy blast/pressure pot from an old gas bottle, and a diy blast cabinet.

Just a warning for you, "static charge build up" when you are blasting.

I use very fine aluminum oxide media for my blasting,

I think that a home brewed setup will be Ok for doing small/er parts so long as you can contain the mess. However what I do these days is have complete beams blasted by an industrial blasters locally before I dismantle them. They then come to pieces with much less struggle and mess, and then its an easy job to refinish the individual parts before building back up.

I think containing the mess is my biggest factor. I do plan to use it for other things beside beams etc. I think buying/making a pot in my first step.
