205 Van Drivers, Who Are You Insured With?

Recommended Posts

johnnyboy666

is there anybody on here insured on a 205 van, like an xad or xrad? ive been looking at a couple of insurance quotes for a 1993 model and im struggling to get it under 1K! my no claims are on the other 205.

Im 24 having held a licence for 6 years and it would be totally standard

i think part of the problem is its seen as a commercial vehicle even though it wouldnt be used as such.

is there any van specific companies to try or should I stick with the usual car ones?

cheers

John

Use van insurance, I insured my 205 for abour £700 in my first year of driving in my name!!! Its because of the larger capacity it costs more, I remember it costing loads more to insure a 61hp 205 deisel than it did my 85hp XS, crazy.

i had an escort van and all insurance companies i actually spoke too said because it was a car derived van it was actually classed as a car, i dont see why a 205 van would be any different it is in essence a 205 with no back seat or windows

I insured it with a van insurance company and it was miles cheaper, you will certainly be fine.

the problem here, is the car is too cheap to pass up, but I've tried a few more, and managed £700 TPFT although I usually find that fully comp is cheaper, but not in this case

I really, really wanted a van to re-shell the rallye into, would have been epic! Couldn't find one at the time though.

since you have no bonus to put on it cant you do it through classic car insurance? surely that will be a lot cheaper and having no bonus wont matter although you wont build up any bonus either

We'll I had an escort cabriolet and my peugeot 605 both with towergate a couple of years ago although through different brokers, towergate were just the underwriters. Both renewals went up more than 3 times and when i rang them they said that towergate had stopped insuring anything under 20 year old and that this had become the 'norm'. I haven't tried any others tho and ive since swapped my immaculate escort cab for my then nail of a 205 cti and some cash and scrapped the 605 and took my 6 years no claims bonus over to the 205 and its more than double what some people on here seem to be paying for same cars :/ i just don't get it

Where did you find a 205 van? I'd love to make a GTi van.

They come up now and again, very sought after wierdy and tend to command above average money. Really early ones came with 1.1's all the rest were N/A 1.8 diesels, one guy put a 306 TD engine in one and made it look like a Rallye, that was cool!

Vans came with bulkheads and metal floors that covered where the base of the rear seats went.Oddly they also welded lugs into seatbelt anchor points.

that'd be the gross weight, an XR van was the lightest on paper of all 205's IIRC
