Stockhatch Re-Fresh

Recommended Posts

p1234

With the start of the Irish rallycross championship only a few weeks away I have abandoned work on my 2ltr project and concentrated on getting my stochhatch freshened up and ready for the first round.

Here is the car as it finished last season

Well battered, it had a hard season.

Operation strip down!!

Collected it from the bodyshop on Saturday

Few bits to do, fit some mud guards, front discs, some new graphics and it will be good to go. Also picked up a set of soft Ao48's during the week and looking forward to trying them out as I ran it on mediums all last season.

Peter.

As welshpug pointed out its a stockhatch so standard 1.6 engine, gearbox etc. We can play around a bit with suspension and the likes and all on the same tyres. It keeps the cost down and the racing close.

Aha, as simple as it is I never assumed "stock" actually meant stock haha..

How did you get away with an aftermarket exhaust or is that one of the little things you're allowed.

We gotta keep the manifold standard but free after that. The rules tend to be bent to the point of breaking like suspension. Rules say no adjustable struts allowed so some lads fit adjustable suspension, set them up than weld the adjustable rings so there in theory not adjustable anymore.

Better than the gravel tyres on tarmac I'd imagine

To sum them up in 1 word 'fun' Everything is nice and controlled while on tarmac, as soon as it hits gravel, mud, your sawing away at the wheel trying to keep it in the desired direction. Add that to battling for position and it all adds up to an eventful race.
