Increasing Xu10J2 Displacement Advice

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

I'm sorry, I know this subject has probably been coveted before, but I can find the relevant content.

I have a cast iron XU10J2 lump in my 205.

What alternative crank could I use to increase the cc over 2.1cc. I can't explain the logic, but I fancy a non standard engine displacement.

I assume a crank swap is the easiest way to do this?

Welshpug, I need your input please.

simple maths plus a bit of background info on what fits/can be made to fit,

In any case you'll need some decent rods and pistons, given that most iron blocks these days are fairly worn, and that a rebore is not very costly, it makes sense to go to 87mm for that extra little bit of capacity.

bore area = (bore diameter x bore dieamater x Pi) / 4,

so 86mm standard XU10- iron block is (8.6x8.6xPi) / 4 = 58.0879 cm2, 87mm overbore is 59.4467 cm2

To work out capacity for a given stroke, multiply bore area by stroke.

1.9 crank - 88mm, from any 1905cc XU/XUD (or 1.8 XUD's)

88mm crank x standard 86mm bore - 2044cc,

AFAIK this is what Paul Higgs has run in his Topaz S16 on carbs for around 200 bhp.

88mm x 87mm - 2092cc.

I believe sandy has built a couple of these, fairly mild cams push them to 220 quite easily, 16v again though.

2.1 TD crank, from XUD11 - 92mm.

87mm x 92mm - 2187cc.

what Sarty had, with std exhaust and a peterT inlet, 240 bhp circa 190 lbft, again another Mi head, Sandy built a 280 bhp variant for DjMini

DW12 - 96mm

96mm x 87mm - 2282mm.

this is a beasty that wardy18 runs, with an 8v head, 203 lbft 224 bhp.

Any links to wardy18's build anywhere?? Quick sesrch didnt yield any good results. Didnt know the DW12 crank would work so quite interested in it. Getting sorely tempted to do another 205 build for myself. Miss my 2.1 16v on bodies :(
