Peugeot Acknowledges The 205Gti By.....

Releasing a special edition of the new 208GTi in memory of the 'rattly-one'. Strangely, they're celebrating 29 years since the 205GTi release. Why not wait till next year, 30 years, and celebrate a more logical anniversary?

Another anniversary run could've been on the cards. The 20 years run is something I'll remember for a long time!

I think this club organising a 30 year bash will be superior to what Peugeot would do. Realistically they hardly want to live in the past. Cars have moved on for better or worse.

Couldn't they have at least done it in a 205 colour - miami blue or something slightly special. Or even, a 205 white rather than a new one.

Just a cash in on the 205's good name.

White is a nice (and original) color for a 205; but I think most non-205GTI owners recall the 205GTI to be red....

Too bad that they didn't shape the spokes of the rims like the 1.9 speedlines...

You are correct, i just meant the 'exclusive satin pearlescent white paint' they are using isn't an original white - couldn't they have used alpine/bianca white instead? A genuine 205 colour! (or even better, laser green - which i know isn't an original colour, but it is the best!)

Bianca wasn't a 205 colour :P

I used to think that - what is the second 205 white then? Since there are two shades - unless some are just very faded.

I thought it was bianca because a friend ordered some paint for his 205 a while back - ordered bianca and it was right

Will they turn out like the 1FM with the brass door plaque and everyone hankering after one when they can finally afford one.

Two different shades of Alpine White AFAIK - the earlier is creamy, the later is quite bright.

You are right though in that Bianca is a pretty good match for one of the shades (the later Phase 2 IIRC) if you're buying off the shelf rattle cans.

Miami Blue is another example - the limited edition models are a noticeably different colour to the later Phase 2 cars, which is backed up by the colour cards that have two major (and several minor) shades listed.

The demographic for buying this car probably was not born when the 205 came out so its probably a pointless marketing exercise.

Chris Harris doesn't like its looks

To be fair, I have sat in one and poked about (not a gti, just a 1.4) and it looked a great little car, very nicely finished and well screwed together, the doors make the right sound when they close!

That marketing twaddle about Golfs really annoys me. Total load of old guff. My 13 year old Alfa 166 has a far superior door closing action.

Was looking at a work colleague's brand new Golf a couple of weeks ago and there was nothing even vaguely special or surprising about the quality with which it's doors closed. Or anything else about it for that matter. And another colleague had a Scirroco for a test, and I thought the cabin was quite low-rent and tacky, all things considered.

I've not seen a 208 in the flesh, but I do really like the look of it. Definitely a positive move forwards compared to the 206 and 207. If you put away any comparrisons to the 205 (which is totally pointless) and just judge it by it's own merits, it looks like it could be a pretty decent small car.

Indeed, they have said to improve the shell stiffness by a significant amount over the 207, but also made it 40 kilos lighter, they are going in the right direction.

Anyone know what type of rear suspension it's got - i.e. any advance on the 206?
