Changing Master Cylinder On Gti6 Converted Car

Recommended Posts

James_K

I want to replace the master cylinder on my 205 gti6 for a new one, but I'm not sure whether I'm going to be able to remove the old one easily though, due to the closensess of it to the 6 engine.

Will I need to lower the engine to do this or should it come out with the engine in place?

I've read that to lower the engine I need to remove the bottom mount and then start to uncrew the bolts on the top mount where it joins the engine, is this a safe/correct method?

thanks

i managed to change mine ok for a 406 master without moving the engine at all. you could always try taking the lower mount off first and swinging the top of the engine forward if space is an issue?

I have done this recently, I put a jack under the sump with some wood between the jack and sump then removed the top engine mount and dropped the engine slightly, the m/c should come out with ease.

You can loosed the servo from inside the car which give you extra play to fiddle it out, thats out I used to do it.

How i did mine, which was the easiest way i found was to remove the lower mount bolt off and loosen the top mount nuts bolts but not completely. Then once this is done you can push the engine away down from the mc via a friend while you take it off. I managed this even with the hard BBM engine mounts.

This is what i did when filing down the head so the mc fitted nicely.
