22k miles isn't exactly bad, after all they are rebuildable for a reason.

It depends on what people use them for I guess or what their expectations are so I would say this is completely subjective.

Just because they are rebuildable doesn't mean it justifies having them rebuilt every so often.

In my daily driver I don't want to fuss about rebuilding things unnecessarily when a good set of fixed perch struts lasts 60-70k miles.

Horses for courses.

The other reason I am critical of them is because I was never satisfied with them in a daily driver and even after a rebuild they became much worse.

They may work very well in a 205, that I don't know but IMHO if you are thinking of getting coilovers get a ride in a car before you decide to do something as suspension is something completely subjective.

Everyone was sworn by them in FSTis but all I know is that the car only handled well on smooth tarmac, it was like a go kart yes. How often to you drive on that though?

The car almost took off once on a motorway's dip at 70mph! That's how s*it the rebound was.

And since the OP is interested in a fast road setup I would be tempted to stay with fixed perch struts or get a ride in a car that has the same AST setup before deciding.

It's a very expensive experiment to get coilovers only to find out that they don't suit your needs.

Sounds like we need to set up a suspension car pool! I can start the ball rolling with an entry in the 'oversteery' category.

The Bilstein tarmac dampers sound quite interesting though. I've no experience of these. Just to clarify, they are fixed damping, ride height adjustable coilovers and are suited to 225lb springs. They sound like just the job. If you wanted to, i presume you can vary the spring used to 200lbs? Where could I go and get these fitted?

The GP-N billies are fixed damping and not coilovers

Group A ones I have, which look like these.

I have been in and driven a classic subaru with AST's and it was very very good, as was the 306 that came before it, also on ast's, and the Volvo V70 T5 that followed!

What inserts are in the grp n ones ? I have always liked running 180lb springs with the Tarmac spec inserts.

Maybe a cheaper option is talking with Bilstein to revalve the inserts to take a firmer spring and compliment your current rear setup. You can then get custom springs produced for less than £100 or buy narrow bodies or convert the fixed platform bodies to height adjustable. Running narrow bodies will also allow more adjustment via top mounts.

As mentioned previously don't be tempted to slam the rear end too much as on anything but super smooth roads you will hit the bump stops which gives sudden oversteer. I would run the 306 grp a Tarmac dampers as a min. on the rear.

Skip brown and AB motorsport also sell the same parts, as do peugeot sport france.

they aren't officially peugeot sport, they just bought a job lot from Peugeot Sport UK when they closed up at the factory in coventry.
