Help! Brake Option For Me Evo Engined Dimma

Hi people,

Looking at you experienced 205 lovers to point me in the right direction and hopefully save us some time and money!

Currently building a Evo 6 engined 4wd 205 dimma...

Being the stubborn chap that I am, I've done things the hard way and refused to use the evo hubs, in favour of using custom ones so I can still roll on my dimma splits. (exactly as a dimma should!)

Problem now being I need serious stopping power. Due to the awkward size of the split rims I don't know what I'm going to use.. My initial plan of using 406 v6 Brembos backfired when the calipers wouldn't sit inside my rims, theyd take some serious spacing which isn't ideal. Has anyone uprated their brakes whist rolling on dimma split rims? Any ideas on this will be greatly appreciated and will save me the hassle of trial and erroring all sorts of different options! Im thinking 206 gti 180s but I'm not sure if they'll be sufficient enough.

Try the renault sport brembo kit that ash does on the 306gti6 forum, 310mm alloy belled discs and a custom bracket.

Thanks for the reply.. Do you know first hand if these fit?? I'd say 310mm were too big but I could be mistaken

4 pot AP racing or Alcon calipers will fit in a 15" wheel wit 315mm discs.

 

Just a simple case of measuring and making the relevent brackets.

I dont know if they fit behond these particular wheels but they go under most other 16"s that are a direct pug fit, theyre a longer lower profile newer design than the 406 brembo.

This was an email I received from a firm in New Zealand when I was on the hunt for serious brakes. They are mighty expensive. Im sure the parts are readily available in the UK.

 

 

There is a kit available for the 205 GTi which uses a larger 304x28mm disc and GroupA style 4-Pot PRO5000 caliper (pic attached). Most 15" competition wheels will fit over this kit but would need to confirm your wheel size?

We have the calipers and discs in stock but the bells and brackets are ex UK (approx 8-10 weeks from order)

 

The Escort kit uses the smaller PRO500 4-Pot caliper and 295x25mm disc, we could make bells and brackets to suit the 205 but would need a front hub assy and wheel to do this. Calipers and discs are also in stock.

Theres loads of simple bolt-on kits available from the likes of Wilwood, HiSpec etc.

 

I can't see the need for much more(£££) tbh.

You say your running custom hubs, are you using custom uprights as well? Should be able to make anything fit if so really. Depends on your budget then!

I've got a set of hi-specs on one of my cars, they're a very narrow caliper. I believe they use them in an escort kit to fit 280mm disc under 13s!!

Wish it were that simple.. just want to get it right first time rather buying different ones all the while to get the right fit...

The depth of the dishes and the offset means I need really narrow calipers.

I'll be taking a look at the KAD ones I think first or the hi-specs..

It is that simple, you measure first then buy....

 

Most if not all the suppliers will give you dimensions.

i have the 16" Compomotive wheels underneath my Dimma. 306 GTi-6 calipers will work in combination with those wheels.

 

Buy some serious brakepads like Carbone Loirrain or something, if you want to break hard. That will do the work i guess. Because i use my Dimma only for normal traffic, i've got OEM brakepads. So, i don't have any experience with other breakpads.

Cheers bud.. Hubs are essentially 1.9 gti but been modded to suit the evo shafts.. I know the gti6 set up fits well but little sceptical on the stopping power.. Suppose with decent pads and something like tarox discs should be there or there about right.. These will be used if I don't find suitable 4/6 pot ones..

Ain't there nobody in your neighbourhood, with bigger brakes (like brembo's), where you can fit your wheel? If the hubs are the same, you have an example.

 

I don't complain about my stoppingpower. But i don't do trackdays or something like that with my Dimma.

 

At my daily (205 GTi-6), i had the 307 HDi breaks first. Wasn't happy about that conversion... Once a year i go to the track (drivin' around with handicapped kids) and after a couple of rounds, the discs and pads were glaced. That was almost a brand new set... Luckily a friend lend me his OMP pads. What a world of difference. So, good pads does matter.

 

After that a mounted a set of 306 breaks, like on my Dimma. And i didn't had that much problems anymore on the track (for that single day a year). Both cars have mounted stainless braided hoses and a bigger 23 mm master cylinder. But with oem pads and discs.

It's worth pointing out that a 'narrow' caliper will require a 'narrow' disc, reducing the thermal mass of the disc, which is bad if your looking for some serious brake performance.

 

I'm not saying they won't do the job, but what I would say is it sounds like your compromising your braking so you can keep the dimma wheels, which would be a shame on what sounds like an epic 205!

I'm sure I remember seeing a picture of these renault Brembos mounted under a 15" speedline sl434. I will see if I can find the pic.

maybe not the one Kunner pictures, but yes there is a kit that is used by many of the 306 boys utilising that clio/megane caliper, you may still be able to get the bells and bracket from "Ash" on that forum.
