Sticking Badges On

Recommended Posts

chipstick

I want to replace my quarter badges. The replacements don't all have intact clips, so I am going to need to bond them on.

I have tried foam trim tape but it isn't quite thick enough to adhere.

I would rather not use something as strong as no nails because I may want to remove them in the future for paint without snapping the trims in half (spoken from experience of removing a set adhered with it).

Could anyone recommend an adhesive not quite as industrial as no nails? I have noticed sikaflex. Apparently is supposed to remain flexible, but I have never used it. Perhaps someone in construction would be able to advise.

Its not helpful, but i have to ask, where and how did you get the badges?

I know Dr.Sarty used to do them years back, but are these your own work - they look quality!

Also, i stuck one on with tiger seal recently - but having never tried to remove one i'm unsure how well that would go.

I got the blanks from a '96 Trio which had stickers on the blanks. Removed those and gave them a good clean and degrease.

A very kind member drew up the type face and I cut it through my vinyl plotter and stuck them on.

I appreciate the 2.0 is smaller than the usual 1.6/1.9 version, but I made the fuel cap blank GTi6 as large as the original GTi and then made the 2.0 to suit that so it was all in proportion. Didn't want a large 2.0 and shrunk GTi6.

Removed the old and a couple were held on with silicone so thought I'd repeat the proven method.

Sorry to jump in on this but I will be producing these to any requirements in the near future.

Just sorting out reproducing blanks from grp but I have vectors for basically any type of badges

as per this thread:

I double up on double sided sticky foam tape.

Ususally takes about 3-4 layers.

Id use tigerseal but as you want to be able to remove them in the future id use silicone as its flexable and easy to clean off.

Sikaflex is an absolute nightmare and makes a right mess when trying to remove.

+1 for decent foam adhesive tape, number plate or window trim fitting tape they use in the building trade, super adhesive and won't come off in a hurry but don't bond them on there for good and make an almighty mess/brake the trims when you do want them off!
