Is This Really For Real?

Recommended Posts

Zara

ive just rang Adrian Flux to ask about swapping my insurance back to the 205 at the end of the month.

she comes back with something about £800 i assume for an entire year? at least i hope......My insurance renewal is in December.

so i think okay not tooooo bad assuming its a year quotation. but then they tell me they cant offer me my agreed value policy anymore (like i used to have) because the car wont be in a garage and is not a 2nd vehicle.

So anyways i ask how much to buy out of my current policy and its £0 to finish but i lose my 6th or 7th years NCB (cant remember how many i have)

Then i get a quote from someone else for £1164

Sooooo i keep looking and come across Greenlight...i thought id give them a go as i know a few people on here always recommend them.... 10 mins later and a whole heap of mods, 5000mile limit and agreed value (parked off road) ....................................

£474 Fully Comp  im still in shock now.

he said it helps ive had the car for 5 years and ive spent so much on it. the limited mileage is the lowest policy giving me approx 15 miles a day perfect as i only live 4 miles from work. :D

£49 a month..... i cannot believe how much i have quite frankly been ripped off over the last 3 years!!!!

So yeah they get a recommendation from me :D :D

Just for reference max NCD is usually gained at 5yrs so anything over that doesnt really mean anything.

This is a very grey area. I noticed on my last lot of quotations that if I declared 4 years NCB instead of 5, I actually save about £20 on a £400 policy. This has been the case with every quotation I've had.

The discount levels for the company I used to work for (a large insurer with pedigree...) was 35%, 45%, 55%, 65%, 70%. The higher premium wasn't caused by them automatically including NCD protection when you put in 5yrs was it?

Nope. I made sure not to include bonus protection both times. The only difference was the number of years.

How about if you tried 6 instead of 5 to see if it made a difference?

I didn't at the time, as I only tried 4 and 5 because I couldn't remember how many years I have. I'll be after insurance again in the next week so I'll try it then.

Try American Express insurance. Seriously. Seem very competitive right now and been well talked about on other forums.

RIP Adrian Flux. You were once the leading specialist insurer because you were extremely competative. You are now a joke.

Tesco was best for me with 5 years NCD came in at £460 fully comp BUT after adding a clubcard it came down to £403, well that was last year and it runs out in november but no one could get anywhere near that this time last year!

I gave up with Flux 2 years ago. Before that i'd used them for nearly all my previous modified cars since i was 17.

What changed for me was 2 years ago when Flux sent me a renewal through on my Focus RS at over £1300 fully comp when the previous year it had been just under £700. Bear in mind i had no claims, etc, during that time and licence is clean, etc. Asked why they'd quoted that much for renewal and was told it was due to rise in personal injury claims, uninsured drivers, etc. I'm sure that could be the case, but not at £600+

Needless to say that renewal was laughed at & i went elsewhere (Need 2 Insure) who covered it for just over £500 that year and again for a similar price this year with no stupid hiked up renewal quotes. Also worth noting that the level of cover was far higher through N2I compared to Flux and all my modifications are properly declared, unlike Flux who "lost" my modification list and decided to insure my FRS for at least 2 years that i had it with them as only having an exhaust & filter fitted when it was far more than that

Flux have been good for me, I pay £1200 for mine with every mod declared, in my own name and at the age of 21 without any no claims bonus's is pretty fair. Only thing is I had to reduce the power of my car to 150bhp but they allow any other mod no extra charge.

Flux Brentacre and Skye where the only companies that would insure me on my car!

@ Strictly Derv - Based on my experience and a few people i know on forums, if you get a chance phone up Flux and ask them to send you a full copy of your modification list.

Chances are they cant, or wont be able to, as they wont actually have the details on file. I gave them a 3 page list of mods on my Focus RS, which they abbreviated down to exhaust & filter, which effectively meant every time i drove my car i was uninsured in the eyes of the law :(

I have been with sky for quite a few years now after switiching from Flux.

No complaints from as they were always helpful over the phone but they couldn't get the price down low enough this year so I had to switch companies.

I've literally just got the docs through the post. It included 2 pages which I had to fill in with the modifications, which is odd as I already had told them. Maybe they put cars into categories such as lightly and heavily modified ect.

I got a very good quote from Skye too but Flux undercut by £150 so I went with them.

That's the list that sometimes seems to be "lost" once you've sent it back so not all your mods are entered on their system  Based on the reply i got on PistonHeads regarding it, apparently it must have been an unfortunate admin error. Funny how it seems to happen quite a bit ;)

I've never had a problem with Adrian flux. just renewed the 309 insurance for £259 for the year. But i might try greenlight to see if they can beat it tho.

I've been ringing them to check they have it as there was a deadline to getting it back to them.

Would it be worth asking for a photocopy sent back to me as proof?

I would, if only for the fact to confirm that all the mods are listed. Otherwise, like me, technically you could be driving without the proper cover :(
