Recommended Posts

Karl

hello there

as many of you know im changing my gearbox and after alot of help and advice (off many of you probably reading this thread) over my other stupid amount of threads  (sorry for this it wont happen again ^_^ ) i am just doing this thread for future reference so its all in the same place :)

can you just please confirm and add to this list of needed parts to convert from 205 be1 to vts:

1)vts box

2)swap selecter arm from 205

3)inner n/s cv cup from vts/gti6 - is this an easy change??

4)205 be3 clutch cable and pedal

5)205 vehicle speed sensor

6)205 be3 clutch arm

7)205 be3 release bearing

i think thats all not sure

i know this is getting boring for you guys but many thanks for all your help very very much appreciated

for those who dont know its for a 205 gti6 ;)

To do it properly you need

1)vts box, Yes

2)swap top selecter arm from 205, Yes, ensure this does not drop down

3)inner n/s cv cup from vts, NO you need to swap the diff or it makes changing shafts a pain in the backside, Plus why use a worn part that does not fit with the rest of the shaft

4)205 be3 clutch cable and pedal, Yes

5)205 vehicle speed sensor, No, The dual output VSS sensor if using OE management or the std 205 speedo drive and cogs if on bodies etc, or the speedo will be way out

6)205 be3 clutch arm, yes & Matching arm bearings, White or off yellow (Year dependent)

7)205 be3 release bearing, Yes

Tells the ecu the car is moving, you get annoying flatspots without it.

Also, any post 1990 205/309 clutch pedal will do, not just from be box.

The 3 pin plug that should be on your GTi-6 engine wiring loom hanging down somewhere in the vicinity of the diff.

Hope it hasn't been. Who's done the loom?

It'll be a white plug with a heatshield cover thing over it

As Miles says, that is the proper way, however, the easy bodge for point 4 is to make an extended adjusting nut, enabling you to retain the BE1 cable, pedal etc.

Either just be careful, or drill a small shallow hole in the top of the selector shaft and put a screw or similar in there - only need a couple of turns, just to give you something to hold

you can also use a decent magnet on a stick to do this without any need for drilling.

That's what I did, neat & easy, although a bit of a bodge (not much of one really, though)
