if that's a typo and its a 2205 TP then its an XU10J2 gearbox, 3.68 FD,

LONG, the number equates to how many revolutions the engine does to a wheel revolution, through all the gear ratios which typically vary from 2.92 first to 0.9or even as long as 0.7 5th.

an Mi16 has a 4.42 final drive ratio, which is fairly short, but has longer 4th and 5th gear ratios than a 1.6 and 1.9 box which use longer final drives.

so a bigger number on the final drive means its a shorter ratio

There is a way of identifying a gearbox you are thinking of buying by counting the number of teeth on the crownwheel. You can either do this by removing the diff housing or there is a much simpler way.

If you remove the drain plug from the diff housing you can see the crown wheel teeth. Mark 1 tooth with tippex & then turn the diff using a screwdriver through the hole, counting the teeth as you go.

Most of the gearboxes have different numbers of teeth on the crownwheel, so if you know that number it should help id the box. I can't remember the numbers offhand, but some of the more knowledgeable guys on here will.

That wont help much really as its only half the picture, they are nit like the ma that have a set of fixed sport ratios plus varying non sport ratios, there can be a vast difference between two 3.68 fd boxes as illustrated above with the xu10j2 box, same fd as a 1.9 but much longer 4th and 5th.
