Wobbling Lights

Recommended Posts

TaffyTim

One of the things ive just failed my MOT on is insecure lights.

On the nearside ive removed the light and the indicator, reseated the indicator and it now feels a whole lot better and so does the the headlight.

On the drivers side the indicator is solid but the headlight still plays a bit, although it is better seated than when i took it in for the test.

Surely the test stations need to allow for a small bit of movement? How much can i get away with?

I cant see how to stop it wobbling other than chocking something between it and the bumper. Does anyone have any tips?

The adjustable inner mounts (either side of the rad) can be problematic. Make sure they're secure on the panel, and the adjustable part (slides back and forth on a rail). The springs are still there on both sides, yes?

Yeah the retaining springs on either side of each headlight are there, the ones I have to hold back before removing the headlights.

I dont remember seeing the inner mounts though.

What do they look like and where do i find them?

. . . . . . .well i'll be blown. In all my years of ownership ive never fiddled with that adjuster!!

It wasn't secured properly as one nut had come off. This is now secured but still there is play in the headlight??

Think i might just get new indicators and headlights as the spring housing in the indicator seems loose

You can always move them a little, they were like it from new. I hate MOT testers that don't seem to understand cars were designed and built slightly differently 30years ago!

to be fair, i thought the near side could fail and when moving the car to the mot garage the off side light was noticeable wobbling.

Anyway, i'll see how i get on tomorrow, hopefully theres an improvement

sorted, no wobling now. Happy days.

GSF Depo indicators have shocking fitments for the bulb carrier to the back of the indicator, Ive had to tape one in as its location felt so lose.

Their headlights were Valeo ones so they seem quality.
