What's Your Favourite Polish Or Wax?

Recommended Posts

Obey_R

Just spent a little while polishing the 1600 And thought it might be nice to get an idea of what everyone else is using or whether there is certain stuff to avoid!

I am between shampoos at the moment, today I used Autoglym Bodywork Conditioner but I sometimes use Carplan liquid Gold, it gives a great foam which I quite like

Personally I always wax with Autoglym Aqua Wax straight after washing. It's great because it is designed to go onto a wet car, so no need to dry it, and it smells brilliant! I have just treated it to a coat of Autoglym Exta Gloss Proection, its a pain in the arse because you have to apply it to the whole car then wait 30-60 mins before buffing it off, but I find it ties great protection, long term.

So what do you guys use!?

Collinite 476s! Very hard wearing wax that i find relatively easy to apply (still a bit of effort as any wax should be!). I use it on everything - from my wheels to my (badly scratched) glasses!

I maily use halfords shampoo, Autoglym super resin polish and finish with Somoniz hard wax. Still can bead up 3/4 months later.

Ive got a few bottle of super resin but tend to stay away from it because it's such a pain to get off the black trim. How do you find it?

Oh I also used Turtlewax Ice for the first time today, easy to apply but a bloody pain to get off! Results weren't worth the effort either...

I find the stuff really good, gives a really nice shine. As my cars not a GTI I have less trim to worry about but it does tent to stain it when it's got on the plastic.

Favourote polish - Menzerna for both machine and hand use

Favourite wax - Swissvax Best of Show if I'm being extravagent (£150-odd a pot...) but for durability the gtechniq sealants are hard to beat and ridiculously easy to use.

Shampoo - Autobrite Citrus Pearl or Zymol Autowash if I get caught short and have to buy from Halfords etc.

Fairy liquid followed by Mr Sheen if I'm feeling extravagant. Supermarket own brands if I'm feeling tight.

I've got a collection of Meguairs kit that has mounted up over the years. I dread to think how much that lot has costed!

Good old fashioned cheapo turtlewax and whichever shampoo looks cheap and won't ruin the Karcher pressure washer I got from Aldi. It won't be perfect by any means, but it'll be shinyer and cleaner than 90% of other cars on the road, which have only ever been through a drive-thru wash.

Gtech nano coatings is all i need, done well will fill in swirls scratches etc, it also protects the paint, its like another layer of clear coat.

I use Poundland 1 litre shampoo as it's as good any premium brand stuff, I found. Failing that, Costco 25 litre Turtle wash/wax for just £15 is great value.

Make sure you get yourself a clay bar if you are keen on making your car look good, it is the best thing ever to make your paint smooth and the effects of everything after to last a while. It makes applying polish a doddle and only needs doing afew times a year.

Polish-wise, Autoglym SRP is one of the best apparently (according to Detailing World) and the EGP is good stuff too, I have used that for years. Just tried PB EXP sealant too and that gave great beading/results overall.

I have just bought some PB white diamond and black hole glazes to try out and one of the best value waxes there is, harly wax - almost a good as Collinite 476 but better value IMO.

The best thing I ever did though was to buy a B&Q cheap Dual Action polisher (it is actually an orbital sander that cost just £35 versus £120 for Meguairs kit). The abrasive polish to remove scratches etc was £15 Poorboys SSR2.5 which works great on Pug paint and the pads for the machine were £4 each.

As with every job, it's all in the prep and the clay bar is one of the best inventions ever for car care. Try it and you will be amazed.

It does get addictive this cleaning lark, and bloody expensive too!

Have tried most makes over the years on my RS and various road cars.

Now use Cosco Turtle wash+wax for washing, can't beat it for value for money and is as good as any meguires/poorboys for washing off.

Waxes/polish I tend to use Poorboys products

and Bilthamber clay bar.

I have a collection of polishes (Meguiars, Poorboys, Menzerna etc.) I bought over the years but nowadays I tend to use the Werkstatt products due to being very easy to use and saving you time.

Wash, clay (twice a year), clean the paint with Werkstatt Prime and then layer as many coats of Jet Trigger as you like.

If the paint has swirls I use an electric polisher (done once so far).

Willing to try the G1 techniq nanotechnology products as they are supposed to last for many months / a year and I don't have time to polish cars anymore.
