Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2

Recommended Posts

JeffR

I'm thinking of a new set of lighter weight wheels for the Mi16-currently I'm using 406 V6/Turbo 15" x 6 1/2" ET 20 which I'll keep for dyno tuning.

I like the look of the Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 which can be had in 15" x 7" ET 15mm and should be lighter than what I've got, & along with the 406 disc/caliper set up, should make for a good upgrade. I have a set of 406 Coupe Brembos & 305mm discs but considering the difficulties of getting wheels in 15" that fit & provide clearance, plus the extra weight of the discs I think the Pro Race 1.2's would be fine. Don't want to go to 16" as my hybrid gearing with 50 series tyres works perfectly on the tracks I attend.

I've seen various versions of the 1.2's but they seem come with spigot rings, which I don't want. They need to be standard 65.1mm bore. The enquiries I've made to some of the Ebay merchants regarding spigot rings haven't made me confident enough to make the purchase.

Anyone got a trusted source that I can deal with?

I'm not sure if these would fit over a 305mm 406 disc, they barely fit over a 288mm Xantia disc on a 306/205 hub, which is a taller offset and lower caliper mounting radius

You're right-the Brembos & 305 discs were never going to fit with 15" wheels, so I'm using 406 283 x 26mm discs & calipers from non Coupe 406's.

Other advantage too is less unsprung weight with the smaller set up.

This is actually 405 front hubs, with 305mm discs and Brembos.

So some 15" wheels will fit... sadly the SL434's require a 5-10mm spacer to give clearance between the spokes and caliper though.

Would love those 434's but they don't seem to come up very often & I suspect not very light either.

I've pretty much given up on using the Brembo/305mm combo & will stick with the current set up at least for the time being.

If I can get these-

it would be a better proposition plus they are 1/2" wider & a few kilos lighter.

Just waiting for a reply on price-ex VAT.

Been doing more research on TD wheels & on both the 306 & 106 sites it's claimed that Brembos will fit behind 15" x 7" ET 15 Pro Race 3's.

Has anyone tried fitting PR 3's on 405 hubs with Brembo's? Alternatively, would 306 hubs fit a 405?

no, 306 hubs are much the same design as the 205, balljoint in the arm with a straight shanked pin clamped into the bottom of the hub.

you may get the TD wheels on over the brembo's but would need quite a low offset or a spacer.

other option is a custom disc with alloy bell and space the caliper inwards.

With my Brembos (not the 406 ones though) I had to make custom bells to offset the disc inboard just as WP suggested. I bought the lowest offset Team Dynamic Pro Race 1 wheels I could find (can't remember exactly what they were though, maybe 15??). It's quite a lot of work though. Best thing would be if you can find someone with those wheels and try before you buy!

Was hoping there would be a hub that fits the 405 but with a lower caliper radius to work with a 283-288 diameter disc & the Brembos.

I photoshopped the wheels onto my car & think the ProRace 3's probably look better although they're about a kilo heavier than the 1.2's.

Oh well, if I have to use the 406 calipers/discs, they're still a good upgrade as pad area is about 30% bigger & discs about 6% bigger than std 405 ones.

Mr Teflon

If it helps, I never ever ran out of brakes with standard calipers, braided hoses, fresh fluid and DS2500 pads.

actually thinking out aloud, the 307 does use a similar arrangement to the 405/6 with the balljoint in the hub, I don't know if the taper is compatible with the 405 wishbones though, whether that be the early or later sizes.

the 307 does use the more typical smaller radius caliper lugs and taller offset discs, you need to check that they don't throw out the camber settings though.

I think the standard pug offset for TD 7" wide wheels is about 15.

edit, poo :( 307/8 uses a 2 bolt fixing to the hub not a clamp like the 405/6.

These are what Citroen used on the C2 rallycars btw, same hub as the C4 and 308, looks like the thread is the same size as the early 405 (M38) but the same size pin as the 405/406 (16mm minor dia) which used an M40 thread in the hub.

XM Xantia C5I+II, late 405 and 406, 605+607 used the same BJ.

You are correct. The 307 balljoints are M38x1.5 threads, and the pin fits the later style 405 wishbones (with the larger hole, 406 size).

So I think 307 hubs and struts can be used fine on the 405, it would be interesting to do some testing on that issue :)

Edit: The 2 bolt fixing is a good thing, as I believe that must make it possible to adjust camber setting, which is a nice side effect.

I guess there is that yeah, also makes large diameter dampers easier to fit :D

Nice detective work there guys. ;) Problem with the 307 hubs & later 405 wishbones is that the GAZ coilovers don't have the flange for the 2 bolt fixing. :(

EDIT- There has been a development on wheels. I'll report back later when I've picked them up.

My wheel problems are now sorted. :) I got a set of Mak Spirit Racing 16" x 7" alloys from a fellow Aussiefrogger.

Correct centre bore, so no spacers & ET 15 & what's more they fit over my Brembos!

So I quickly photoshopped them on-

Very happy not to have spent the money on new wheels as I'll be up for about $1400 for some Advan AO50's.

Excellent :)

Some wheels actually fit without spacers, which is really good.
