Really not done much still since before the summer. The 407 has caused me too much grief, but I think it will be in good working order with quite a few freshly painted panels now.

Just painted the relay bracket the other day so I can put the rear beam wiring in once for all now.

It has been some really intensive rust welding work on this car. I had never in my dreams thought that a 405 could be this bad, as I always was under the impression that the 405 was even better than the 205 when it comes to the rust.

Initially I had a plan of beeing finished with the car in 2011, but it all ended up by me spending 2 whole years on fixing rust on it, so 2009-2011 was just rust fixing.

Hopefully now things will get better/funnier, next thing is to get the side skirt mountings done, and after that I think it's ready for paint :)

It was very challenging to keep going and focus on all that rust. I'm glad it's done now at least.

The 407 have started taking a lot of my time, but I just got a proper spot sand blaster so will soon clean up the last few rust spots which is under the rubber seal for the door.

Also painted the 17" wheels. Not done yet. Put acid etch, surfacer and metallic color on now, but need to do some slight sanding in some areas and put one more layer of silver before laquer on.

Hopefully I will be able to get some more progress soon now.

Thanks :)

Now I've put clear coat onto the wheels. Turned out quite nice, no runs as I could se either... always hard to avoid :)

Now I just need to paint a set of 1.9 Gti wheels that I'm refurbing. When that's done it's time to get the T16 into the paint booth and start spraying some high build primer on it!

The SL434's are in storage :)

Will probably use them on the sorrento green 205 I have lying in the garage. But won't be working on that until the T16 is ready :)

Where exactly that stiffener will go?

It's to replace the orginal bracket between the block and transferbox which were mounted on some cars.

The new one will allow for better space for larger downpipe also.

Moved it into the paint booth now

Will take off the front wishbones etc. before I start painting. Also has to do a good masking job to avoid getting paint dust on the underside :)

Just sat and read this whole thread - that's some serious dedication and skills you have there - looks like an epic build.

Waiting to see what it looks like when it comes out of the booth now

Thanks for that, it's been a very long way to where it's now.. Sadly I'm getting a bit tired of the whole thing lately, but will try to pull it through in the end :)

It is impressive how much hidden small spots of rust there might be on these 405's really.

Started to prep the sill area for paint and noticed that there is rust under the good looking paint over all the spot welds of the B-pillars to the sill, will possibly find more other places when I start looking.

Luckily I bought a spot blaster gun not long ago, it comes in handy now :)

Yes it works suprisingly good, and will collect most of the blast media in the bag so it can be used several times.

Sprayed 0.6 litres of epoxy this evening.

I'll do some sanding at local spots where it is needed, need to inspect it next time and do some touch-ups and add some sealant on a few spots before I spray the sanding primer.

I start to feel that I'm getting somewhere finally :)

Applied sanding primer today, sadly I got a few runs... damn it.. just hope I manage to sand them flat then...

But one step closer to color at least.
