anything poverty spec style diesels 1994 or 1.4 or 1.6 petrols should have the manual fronts.... is there much in it weight wise? just get some perspex and stick a slider on it if your bothered about weight

Probably not alot of weight gain, but I want to do away with the wiring to the front doors anyway, which will simplify the loom.

It's a moot point 'tho as no manual winders exist over here. :(

yea theres not a lot of weight to be held back but every bit helps including less wires. ie elec windows, speakers, central locking, wing mirrors and interior light switch. ive even removed the door catch thing that makes all the screaches, the door is so much quieter and easier to close. but ive had to add something to stop the door opening to far as in a fabric strap.

Hey DRTDVL, were there any poverty pack 405's sold in NZ? If so maybe I can get a wrecker to ship to Aust.

i can't edit my post so:

i spoke to my mechanic who use to work for pug, and he seams to think that only the very very very early 405 base models "might" have had manual windows.

Looks like no manual front winders in the Southern Hemisphere!

I'll look into the possibility of modfying the rear winders off my spare wreck.

Thanks DRTDVL.

Have you weighed the whole windows? I would be interested in how much heavier it is than the manual.

I would have thought you would go the full lexan route so you'd just remove all the winder systems.

Haven't weighed the entire door innards with glass as yet. Been busy attending to the rust.

If I have no luck with the rears, I might have to re-think the lexan option although I prefer an open drivers window.

not a fan of the idea of open windows on a track/race... I look at the window as a layer of protection for the sides, unless you had maybe a window net.

OK. Rear winder mechanism doesn't fit the fronts as the spool which the cable is wound around is way smaller than the front winder.

So, one last desperate plea for someone to offer there's from a wreck or can get from a dismantler. Pleeeeeeez!

dont quote me on this but from what ive come to think is that the window mechs are the same for electric or manual, the differences lie in either the motor or cable operated, so in my way of thinking if you buy a manual window mech for the windows you should be able to replace the elecky side with cable operated handle type. ! ? YES/NO

Yes, that's right. It's only the spool assembly that the cable wraps around & handle which differ from the elec ones.
