Performance Cams...

hi guys.

A friend of mine is selling a pair of kent cams with duration of around 300 and lift is about 10.82mm, wicth was removed form a peugeot 205 mi16 engine.

 

Question: can i just remove my standed cams and just put in these ones...( i have a standed engine, no mods ) or must i add anything else, ( lifters, springs, ect ) to cope with the

 

extra pressure??

 

As this is something new for me.

The lift is ok for the standard springs, but the lobes may not clear the bucket bores. Meaning a head off modification with the grinder. You'd also need a D6C (10.4:1) minimum. Wouldn't work with a DFW as CR will be too low.

well i check to see to code of the engine and it´s a DFW....damn.

 

Soo, what can i do to add abit more ponies under the bonnet??

 

Any advise?

 

Note: without opening the engine as she is running very well....

I have a question peter:

 

To bring up the cr, since the cr is quiet low in the engine ( DFW ), i´ve read about deck the block to bring the cr to 10.8.1 ( i think ).

 

Wouldnt it be easier decking the head insteed say 0.1mm and then use the std head gasket?

 

As it is easier moving around the head than the block.

 

then adding a stg I cam...

If it's a DFW you need to skim 1.3-1.4mm off the block/liners. Taking metal off the head is useless, as the amount that can be removed is limited by the valve seats. Try a big cut and you'll hit the seats. Taking metal off the liners achieves two things:

 

- increases CR more easily as entire bore area is removed

- decreases squish (piston to head) distance, improving burn rate

 

I know it's a pain having to strip the block but that's just the way it is. Most engines would need a rebuild by now anyway.
