Rear Left Suspension Swing Arm?

Recommended Posts

tzracing

I dont know if is the correct name to mention "swing arm" which holds the rear suspension and wheel.

The case is that the swing arm is damaged and wheel is grinding on the suspension.

My problem here is that I live in Portugal (in the end of Europe?) and at the workshop they are not helping me at all, saying that no longer exists replacement material for the 405...

Same situation with the rear caliper but I manage to fix it.

Now my real problem... I dont know how you call that thing in case I have to import from else where. Can you help me? :(

Thanks.

That is a trailing arm and it sounds like your bearing are dead!

Have you not got a Pug main dealer there?

Pug Portugal main dealer says no longer exist some parts for the 405, and for MI16 less, since not many sold here.

Unfortunaly is not only the bearing damaged, the trailing arm is twisted and the wheel was not in the standard angle mesaures, could be the cause to damage bearing when in stress while driving.

Anyway thanks, I already started to make connections!

Any other 405s out there that you could get bits off?

I found one 405 MI16 for parts, but by the time I made the contact, my mechanic bought the trailing arm and bearings from a workshop friend in Spain. Still many 405 MI16 in Spain. Lucky me!

Thanks.

Also when you need a new rear beam the next time, remember you can use the Peugeot Partner and Citroen Berlingo rear beams, as they are a straight fit on the 405.

Looks like the Partner/Berlingo has a 306 front suspension layout, and 405 rear suspension.

Yeah I think a GTI6 conversion on one of those would sure be nice.

Fit grease nipples for armbearings and apply grease at least once a year. -> Bearings won't get rusty and damaged anymore.

Could you just drill a hole in the beam and fill it with very very thick oil?

Couple of pictures. Oil will leak away.

Interesting site.

I'm confused about that though, how thru that small hole does one ensure the bearings are actually getting greased?

you cant Kriss, unless you fill the whole tube which would be a rather silly idea, much better to strip them down every few years or to fit Phosphor Bronze bushes with grease nipples fitted directly into the bush through the tube (not something you can do with a needle bearing)

On the 405 you won't fill the tube, as it's the arm itself that contains the "hollow" part (on the 205 it's different, as tube is hollow and shaft is pressed into arm).

So if you squeeze like 2-5dl of grease into there it should eventually fill up and I guess grease would start to come out between the shaft and inner-bearing in the arm.
