Hello !

Im a bit confused about smthing for a while, the question is . how can a 405mi16 (87)

be lighter than a 306 Gti-6, the figures on carfolio shows 405 mi-16 - Kerb weight 1108 kg and the 306 which has a short chasis weight Kerb weight 1214 kg.

 

The figures also shows that an 306 1.6 xr weight - 1080 kg, It's normal because of it's engine is lighter. Then how cud a big large 405 weight almost near to a 306 XR, It shud be like the 306 Gti-6 weighting over 1200 kg.. how come ?

Im not sure on exact figures, but that all sounds right, the 306 is indeed heavier than the 405

306 isn't a small car, and is built a fair bit stronger than a 405, but a late 405 will weigh more than early ones, but still not quite as much as a late gti6.

 

gti6 has (dependent on age and spec level) more airbags, Aircon, ABS, a heavier gearbox, heavier suspension arms, more soundproofing etc.

all adds up.

 

wheelbase of the gti6 isnt greatly diferent to the 405, just that the 405 has a sticky outy bit!

Wouldn't surprise me if the bodywork metal is slightly thicker too.

 

A 1995 1.8 LX 406 weighs 1214kg too.

Anyone know what a 405 touring car weighed? Sure I've seen it somewhere on tinternet.

 

I know I've got rid of an easy 50kg from mine- no ABS, no aircon, sound deadening is in the process of being ripped out and I'm putting lighter front seats in eventually

all later touring cars are between 1000 and 1100 kg's (406, Laguna, Accord etc),

Pug being the heaviest of the lot actually. 405's might have been lighter but not

under 1000 kg's, as i think that's the class minimum weight iirc.

I've yet to see a TU engined 405, although I did know they exist. Must be pretty underpowered, a bit like the old 1.3 Sierra lol

Hehe now nothing is as slow as one of those! I think even the 2.3 diesel was quicker.
