If so could you measure it's height for me?

Thanks

Still having spring troubles then Kris? You may get a slightly different measurement if the car has done a fair few miles as they tend to sag after a while

Yeah well I've still not put the GTI6 springs on yet but I just thought I'd like to compare their unloaded height to a standard Mi16 spring.

theres couple of height differences on the mi16 front springs,

when i 2 sets sat beside each other once, 1 set from a F reg, 1 from a G reg they were different lengths , the earlier one's being longer.

Kris,

FWIW, the free-standing height from a Oct '89 build date Mi is-

385mm X 14mm wire.

Cheers,

Jeff

Thanks Jeff.

Damn, the gti6 springs I've got are about the same as that.

Since I also had a set of std. GTi6 springs , I thought I'd measure those as well-

400mm X 12.5mm wire diam.

Strange the lighter (1130kg) Mi16 has beefier springs than the (1215 kg) GTi6.

LOL this is odd! Seems there's quite a variation in what was used for the same models.

I measured the springs on my dad's GTI6 - while they were on the car - and they had a couple CMs less distance between top coil and bottom coil than on my 405 so naturally I thought "well, this could be a cheap way of lowering the 405 slightly."

Only way to find out for sure is to fit them I guess.

if they're much stiffer, your car won't compress them enough and might end up sitting higher than it was! ;)

Yeah, I've thought of that too but there's not that much difference. If I lie on the engine bay the car only drops about an inch and that's 90kg!
