in principle exactly the same, the means o fixing the torsion bar differs between years, and you dont need to touch the ARB at al (the 405 runs an external ARB)

IMO the standard height of a 405 Mi is low enough as it is, I measured from my standard cat to the floor a few months back and got a measurement of 5 inches!!! bear in mind that the tallest UK speedhump is 4 inches tall......

If you're lowering, you could add some stiffness if you swap the torsion bars (probably 19mm diameter) with some from a Partner/Berlingo (21.4mm) (be sure to measure... the 1.4's tend to have thinner bars, so best bet is from a 1.9 Diesel).

If everything is not seized up it's surprisingly easy I found.

For some reason they set the 2 litre Mi16 slightly higher at the back than the 1.9. Perhaps it was because of the cat.

Are the Partner torsion bars a direct replacement for the 405 ones then?

Im putting the original mi16 wheels back on but there running 195/45/15 tyres and the arch gap is huge!! so it needs to go! lol.

Why are you running such a small profile? Is it just a case of the wheels coming with those tyres? The ride must be quite harsh...

That's crazy! Even 195/50 look small after 195/55s.

now that is very interesting!"

and yeah if there's a 45 profile tyre on the Mi rims don't bother lowering it, its already too close with sully small tyres, get some 55's!

you wanna run 50's all the way, 55s cost like £15-20 more per tyre :o

ive always run 50's on all my 405s spot on, 55's are to wallowy and 45's to stiff.

so what they cost more!! they're the right size for they car FFS!

I tried 50's on mine, it was crap! all wandery with small ripples in the road, 55's give more and don't snap on the limit, hence less likely to go hedgeways, which IMO is why the 306 and 205's get such a slating for the lift off oversteer, every bugger fits the wrong size tyres!

If you can drive properly its no problem

I suppose older people might like the 55 walls for comfort more than performance and if your happy paying that much more per tyre then thats your initiative, personally id rather spend the extra on better quality 50 rated tyres which make the car more exciting to drive.

Yeah but hang on a minute, when I last bought my crappy STAR PERFORMER tyres from Mytyres' website the difference was about £5. They're not that big really, I mean my dads Merc's got 195/65s and they do look like baloons!

Running Toyo888 195/45/15 On the original wheels. Lowering the front and rear so it sit nice and low with not massive arch gap.

Thanks For The Help All
