righty so got the sump off today to see what all the fuss was about

as mentioned i wobbled all the rods to see if 1 was loose and it was, if you look you can see my finger pointing at no.3 (i think) rod.

took the cap off and looked at the shells....

f***ed, the other set of shells is off no.2 rod, took them out to see exactly how bad they were.

they have been beaten wider and longer!

comparison of no.2/3 shells and end caps.

thats no.3 crank, dont look to bad and feels ok but its not perfect and you can clearly see it taken the shine off the surface.

but then neither is no.2 in comparison.... has some scratches.

not really had to much to do with bottom ends really, im a derv man and there solid as a rock never have to shell em and if i do its easyer to just get a new engine!

so, it is lightly scratched but so is no.2?

can it just be re-shelled, dont want it to last forever as long as its good for a few years,

and how much are a set of shells, looks like they all want doing.

p.s if you still have the piston i might have it off you

if its gone that bad you'll need a regrind (IF the crank is still straight) and possibly new/repaired rods.

basically you need to strip it right down, mark all the bits and bag them up per cylinder (no1 is flywheel end) then take the whole lot to an engine remanufacturing specialist for advice.
