Mi16x4 To Ford Transit Diesel

Recommended Posts

With warrant of fitness time coming and a speedo cable that is giving up the fight for life it's time to look for alternatives.

Has anybody here done a speedo cable swap on a 4bie with a Ford Transit Diesel? If so I would love to hear how hard it was and whether it worked or not.

Cheers

Seem like alot of us with 4bie's are having problems with there speedo cables, has any body tried sending a pattern to these guys: www.speedycables.com to have a replacement made. i would send mine except i don't have one as it was converted to a 2 wheel drive.

you never know if there are enough of us order at once then we may get a discount.

Surely the likes of QH or someone would do a cable? I always get speedo cables from my local motor factors. Must ask him out of curiousity if he can get them for an Mi16x4

If it is just the flexible cable an instrument specialist should be able to make up a replacement.

I had a new inner cable for my Mi16x4 made for $40 at Parrots here in Christchurch about a year ago (this included a new fitting at the transfer case end of the outer cable), you should be able to find someone in Wellington who can do it.

I thought it was just the 90d bend metal part that was hard to get hold of? And could possibly be the same as a Transit item, i think Vicky's done it and posted the info up previously iirc?

So do I just need to take the cable out and ask a cable specialist to make up a replacement? I heard somewhere that it was a gear that stripped inside the transfer case.

Guesse I will have to ask a cable specialist. Any one know what most commonly needs replacing? is the bendy metal bit re-usable?

Feeble

It's the core of the cable that rounds, as far as I'm aware. I have 3 different cables. When you take the metal bit and the flexi bit apart, you can see if the core is rounded.

Only one of my 3 cables is completely working...

Would you be able to post a pic of one of the non-working cables with arrows etc showing the problem? Cheers

lol Baz, the working one will be going in my car! If I can make one good one out of the rest, you are welcome to it! :P

And I'll try and get some pictures... But it's probably gonna be hard to see the problem in a photo. I'll try...
